As COVID-19 vaccines become more available nationwide and more people are able to receive a shot, travelers are having to decide what they’ll be comfortable doing after they are fully vaccinated.
Travel site The Points Guy polled over 2,400 U.S. adults to find out what people will feel safe doing post-vaccine. The survey found that 49 percent of respondents are more likely to travel to a destination or travel with a company that is requiring proof of vaccination. However, 34 percent of people polled said that they are less likely to travel to a destination/with a provider that requires proof of vaccination.
According to the poll, over 64 percent of U.S. adults are hoping to travel in 2021. But, travelers aren’t likely to immediately return to their old habits and destinations, and will instead opt for outdoor vacations and look to avoid more crowded spots.
Where will people look to travel after their vaccines? Respondents said that after the COVID-19 vaccine they would feel safe traveling to the following places:
- A state or national park (70 percent)
- Public beaches (59 percent)
- Big cities (50 percent)
- Resorts (45 percent)
- Theme parks (32 percent)
- Cruises (20 percent)
“For many Americans, COVID-19 vaccines are the key to restarting travel,” says Melanie Lieberman, senior travel editor at The Points Guy. “Destinations that are requiring proof of vaccination, and travel providers that have a similar requirement, seem to be giving potential travelers a stronger sense of safety, which will make many people feel more confident about booking future travel.”
