WSET courses with Rack and Return help you gain a deeper understanding of the wonderful world of wine – from learning how to taste wine professionally to exploring in-depth about viticulture, wine-making and the wine-making regions of the world. Classes are engaging, fun and comprehensive.
The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is a beginners’ course and an ideal introduction to the world of wine for anyone with little or no prior knowledge of wine. It is an intensive course, designed to be completed in a single day. The course covers the characteristics of the worlds’ main grape varieties and an introduction to both viticulture (grape-growing) and wine-making.
Candidates taste a selection of red and white wines from the principal grape varieties, displaying contrasting characteristics. The appearance (colour), nose (aroma characteristics) and palate (sweetness, acidity, tannin, alcohol, body) are all considered. Students also learn about food and wine pairing, storage of wine and legal issues during the level 1 course.
Levels 1, 2 and 3 are available in English and levels 1 and 2 can be done in Spanish. Group sizes are limited to a maximum of 10 people and classes take place in a bright, spacious room.
On completion of the course and passing the test, you will have gained not only professional knowledge but also a globally recognised qualification and certificate.
