Future State, announced in October, is a line-wide publishing event replacing DC’s regular superhero comic book line for January and February, with new titles set in the future of DC’s multiverse. In a statement accompanying the announcement, DC editor in chief Marie Javins said, “some savvy readers will not only pick up on some of the breadcrumbs that have already been tossed out in our current titles, but they will also find new hints and clues of what’s to come in 2021.”
Swamp Thing, created in 1971 by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson for House of Secrets No. 92, has been a mainstay of DC’s line ever since; the 1980s Saga of the Swamp Thing series was the title that made Watchmen writer Alan Moore’s reputation in the U.S., with creators such as Mark Millar, Brian K. Vaughan, and Scott Snyder handling the character in subsequent series. Most recently, the character has been appearing in the Justice League Dark series, written by Ram V.
The writer confirmed the news on Twitter, adding more information about the ongoing title’s creative team; he and Perkins will be joined by Mike Spicer on colors and Aditya Bidikar on letters.
The new Swamp Thing series will begin in March.
