The sequel will have a new focus on combat.
Those looking forward to the sequel to the cult hit, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, had some unfortunate news that the game would be delayed until later in 2020. It’s disappointing, but hopefully it will give developer Hardsuit Labs the time they need to get everything polished up. One of the things they want to tighten up is the combat, something they hope to refine in the sequel.
In an interview with Gamasutra, Florian Schwarzer, Senior Producer at Paradox Interactive, talked about the game’s combat, especially compared to the original game. He said due to being made on the Source engine, it conflicted heavily with the idea of what the original team wanted to do. Here they are hoping to create more refined combat where you feel like the weapon.
“They tried to do many things at the same time. Thanks to the Source engine, there was a rather competent shooter laid on top of this third-person type of perspective, which I think they had a hard time getting right,” Schwarzer said. “That was on top of what this essentially a short distance wrestling system with the feeding mechanic on top of a fully articulate stealth game. I think if you do something like this today, you’re going to have a hard time. I think back then it was almost impossible.
“The combat system in the sequel is primarily focused on the idea that you are the weapon. You are not a counter-terrorism specialist that needs to strap on a lot of gear, you are the badass.”
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 promises a pretty lengthy adventure so having solid combat can really make things easier. It should all be good when the game releases sometime in 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
