Aonuma offered a different way for viewers to get a taste of the environment and characters by playing a clip that dove into the history of Hyrule and Calamity Ganon — the latter being the powerful antagonist of the Zelda series, described by Aonuma as “a primal evil that has endured over the ages.”
Aonuma shared that players of this game will actually get to experience the great calamity, an event that threatened the kingdom of Hyrule and caused a long slumber, partially shown in the first game.
Yosuke Hayashi, producer at KOEI Tecmo Games, added, “Hyrule Warriors was developed closely with the Zelda team in every step of the process, including gameplay direction, graphics, world and all dialogue. And while we maintain the distinct gameplay style of the Warriors series, with exciting 1 versus 1,000 battles, and a wide variety of playable characters, this became the only game that will let you experience the world 100 years prior to the events of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, firsthand.”
Breath of the Wild was released in 2017 for Nintendo Switch and Wii U consoles, going on to become the best-selling game in the Zelda franchise, first launched in 1986.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity launches Nov. 20, 2020. View the video below.
