Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Green Lantern Series I: Hal Jordan as Green Lantern Comment: A few years ago, DC Direct initiated an action figure series based upon the legendary Green Lantern and his various allies and enemies. In its first wave, the fearless Hal Jordan was presented in his alter ego, Green Lantern. Complete with a power battery lantern and a specialized support base, this figure truly had some awesome potential following the success of the "Hard Traveling Heroes" and "Justice: Series 3" depictions of the same character. Considering that Hal Jordan would obviously be this line's centerpiece, one would have assumed that DC Direct intended to put some extra effort into his first figure of this new series. However, after careful thought, I must say this figure is, unfortunately, a distant third to the other two DC Direct figures I mentioned. In fact, with the recent release of Mattel's own excellent DC Universe Classics' Green Lantern action figure, this figure now drops to fourth place and may plummet even further with the upcoming Green Lantern figures from DC Direct in its ongoing "Superman/Batman" and "Justice League of America" series (both of which are scheduled for release in early 2009). Why is this figure a disappointment? It is really just a matter of comparisons. First, as many different Green Lantern figures exist, it is inevitable to match this figure's qualities against other recent depictions of Hal Jordan. While this figure's sculpting is decent, it is just not in the same league as the "Justice: Series 3" and "Hard Traveling Heroes" versions of Green Lantern. I realize DC Direct likely wanted a fresh sculpting for this series, but making a composite sculpture of the other two figures might have made a better choice. However, Hal's emerald and black uniform has a shiny finish, which is rather eye-catching. Also, the obligatory lantern power battery is an excellent accessory. Now, for the most pertinent question: does the actual figure resemble the promotional photo's representation of it? My answer is: certainly, yes. When you see the figure's display photo, you will know exactly what you are getting with your investment. Finally, DC Direct's "Green Lantern" series has demonstrated vast improvement in its two subsequent waves. I was impressed with its Series 2: Guy Gardner, as it is a dead-on depiction of the hard-nosed character, and Guy's lantern is the best I've ever seen. From earlier this year, the Series 3: Star Sapphire is top-notch, but, without a doubt, the Series 3: Batman as Green Lantern is the best this series has produced thus far. I highly recommend locating that one, as it is simply fantastic. Assuming DC Direct is pleased with the sales from the "Green Lantern" series, another Hal Jordan figure is no doubt in the works. Hopefully, that one will reflect the series' current trend of getting increasingly better with each successive wave. This Series I figure, I suspect, is a decent prototype for a figure far better still to come. If you can find this Series I figure for a reasonable price, it is at least worth considering as an investment. Rating: Good / Above Average. My Score: 7.5 (on a scale of 1 -10).
