Editorial Reviews:

A 40,000-year-old race of snake people resurface, and with help of Serpentor, Desto, Baroness and Dr. Mindbender, plan to eliminate all of mankind and rebuild Cobrala. Once rulers of Earth, the Snake people were driven underground by ice-age temperatures. While in exile, they developed a plant whose spores turn ordinary men into mindless, weak animals. The key to their plan is G.I. Joe's secret project--the Broadcast Energy Emitter. Only this device generates enough heat so that the spores can mature. Humankind's very existance depends on G.I. Joe, but are they strong enough, smart enough, cunning enough to fight a warrior race with 40,000 years of experience?

Summary: G.I. Joe the Movie
Comment: Never received this movie from the seller. Had to wait a month to see if I ever did get it. Now I'm in the process of waiting two more weeks to get my money back. The seller refused to contact me after I requested she do so. Amazon told me to wait longer. Not happy with either the seller or Amazon since it was Amazon that named this seller for me to purchase the movie from.

Summary: "Cobra La-La-La-La-LAME!!!"
Comment: You have gotta be kidding, this movie utterly sucks. As every Joe-Head knows, G.I. Joe jumped the shark upon the inclusion of Serpentor, and this "movie" aired long after that, when the entire property was in its final death throes. It was supposed to be released in theaters but after Transformers: The Movie bombed at the box office (it staged a posthumous comeback on video years later) Hasbro decided to yank the theatrical release and relegated it to TV, which was more than it deserved. This fetid stinker should never have survived the pitch meeting.

Summary: Classic 1980's Nostalgia-I Love It!
Comment: This movie was it back in 1987 for 10 year olds like me! The opening sequence that has Cobra launching an all out attack on the Statue of Liberty while the Joes fight them off is unforgettable and one of the coolest movie intros ever. Then we get the fantastic assault on Cobra Island by a seemingly unstoppable assailant that ends with Serpentor's throne room being infiltrated. Classic. The intro of new Joes and Cobra La didn't sit well with some but the movie itself is full of great action and dramatic moments. The scene where a blinded Roadblock barely escapes Cobra La, rescues an injured and left for dead Cobra Commander and carries him piggyback style to safety is a great example of this. The animation is the best it ever was for the series with alot of cool effects. Although the origins and histories of characters in the cartoon differ greatly from Larry Hama's excellant Marvel Comics series of the 1980's and early 90's G.I. Joe was one of the finest action cartoons of its time which was a golden age of after school viewing with great cartoons like He-Man & The Masters of the Universe, Transformers, Voltron, Thundercats, Robo-Tech, MASK, Wheeled Warriors, C.O.P.S., The Real Ghostbusters and Duck Tales. This is a must have for kids of the 1980's!

Summary: G.I. Joe: The Movie
Comment: I know it was an 80's children's cartoons I decided to buy this DVD is my attempts to "recapture my childhood" and I wasn't disappointed! The movie itself was okay but the DVD extras are what make this a "must-keep" for me. It this particular movie, the Joes try to stop Cobra from deeolving the world through these organic spores. In this movie the true ancient origins of Cobra(la) are FINALLY revealed.

The movie marked a landmark in GI Joe storylines. Most the old-time favorite Joes and Cobras appeared. Many new characters also made their debut (Lt. Falcon, the Renegades, Nemesis Enforcer, etc). However, the movie itself may NOT be the best feature of this DVD. The exclusive DVD features are. This movie may be the begining and the end of the era or cartoon. You can be the judge of this.
