Summary: Falls Short of the Mark
Comment: While I had heard lots of good things about Geoff Johns' run on the regular "Flash" comic, I had never gotten around to actually reading a large chunk of the book until I bought this collection, which features Johns' first try-out arc on the book, before he was given the regular gig. So I finally bought a copy recently, and was somewhat underwhelmed.

It's not that the book is bad. It's actually fairly good, with Johns throwing in some nice ideas for the mirror world Wally West is trapped in, as well as how he works with his various Rogues. It also sets up a lot of the characters and stories that Johns would explore throughout his run.

The problem is that his writing just isn't different enough from the rest of the underwhelming comics that fill the background in the business these days. It's solid and interesting, but not mind-blowing. I've read some of Johns' other work, and have been even more underwhelmed, so I guess this collection is a step up, in that sense.

One of the major problems with the book is the art. Angel Unzueta is a competent enough artist, but just not good enough to do justice to a character like the Flash. And it just doesn't have the power and the synergy that Scott Kolins' art seemed to have with Johns on his regular run.

Despite this trade being a bit of a let-down, I'll buy more from Johns' now-classic run on the title. I've heard that the book only gets better under his stewardship, with new and interesting villains and fun stories. The art of the aforementioned Kolins should go a long way towards helping.

Summary: Very Interesting
Comment: If you are a fan of both The Twilight Zone and Flash, then you'll enjoy this graphic novel. It's like a combination of The Twilight Zone and Flash.

Flash is suddenly warped into an alternate reality where he suddenly loses his super speed ability and he meets up with his fellow rogues. He has no choice but to join forces with them if he is ever going to escape and make it back home to his wife. But it won't be easy since it's a reluctant team-up of Flash and his rogues and it's more then meets the eye. However I do not want to give out any spoilers.

I was impressed with this story which contains 6 issues of a Flash mini series. I love the art work for they made the rogues look demonic which I appreciated greatly. As a fangirl of Flash and DC Comics I highly recommend this graphic novel to anyone who is a fan as well.

Summary: The "return" of Barry Allen!
Comment: Somehow this story slipped by me and I didn't catch it when it originally came out, but Wonderland is a killer story. It opens up with Flash captured by the Police and put in jail, but he has no memory of how he got there or why his powers are acting strange. Worst of all, he's being locked up by one of his own rogue's gallery as a cop! Even his uncle Barry Allen (the best Flash there's ever been) is against him. From there, the mystery deepens and Flash is forced to team up with two of his most hated villains to escape this nightmare world he's entered. I don't want to give away too much because part of the fun is uncovering the mystery. I'll say this much: it's one of the better collected storylines I've read this year.

The story is well-done, and the artwork is superb. I thought I knew where this was going, but the ultimate mastermind behind it all was a complete surprise to me. It's a fast-paced story told through 6 issues of the Flash comic book, and I'm glad I waited until this release to read it. I think the suspense would have been too much having to wait a month at a time between chapters! Highly recommended.
