I thought I'd post this one so we can get through the background fluff of the story a little faster
Well here's the start of the superhero part of the story!
--------------------
Chapter 6; Dark
--------------------
It's been 1 year after Mike left for college for New York to work in the NYPD. He's used this job as a cover for the real reason he's there. Secretly, when an alert goes out at the station, he's on the scene as Lectrohm, Mike's alter ego. Facing the hate, the crime, the disastrous underworld of the city he is the symbol for truth on the streets of New York. Little does he know, something is brewing under the streets, some thing dark and evil. This will be the birth of an ultimate rival...
Eddie: Magnificent, tell me again professor, how does it work?
Professor: It's simple if you're an astrophysical & biological genus Eddie. The myth of dark matter in astrophysics, dark matter is matter that does not emit or reflect enough electromagnetic radiation such as light, X-rays and so on to be detected directly, but whose presence may be inferred from its gravitational effects on visible matter. Now that we have superheated and fused it with living human cells offered by you, we actually have a living sample of biological dark matter. It breathes, it thinks, it's alive. Think of what we'll be able to accomplish, we can cure Cancer, Diabetes, and world sicknesses!
Eddie: Amazing.
Professor: There's just one problem which sets off my entire willingness to continue the project. Scientists didn't call it 'dark' matter for nothing.
Eddie: Hm?
Professor: Dark matter fears light, and now that it's living, well, what happens when humans fear something?
Eddie: They seek a way to destroy it.
Professor: Exactly. Now, we need to force feed it light. If it gives in, then we have pure matter, a state in which we'll have a limitless amount of energy. Then there's our worst case-scenario. Because it's living--
Eddie: Well?
Professor: If it escapes it will seek to destroy all light. Thus ending all life, as we know it. Which is why I insist we abandon the project, neutralize it now, and toss it into the nearest black hole, thus obliterating the dark matter.
Eddie: In order for science to move forward, risks must be taken.
Professor: Listen to your self! You're talking about the annihilation of all life!
Eddie: Force feed in 10 seconds.
Professor: But--
Eddie: Do it, or I'll make sure family survives only to regret your decision.
The professor, angrily, starts the countdown. 10...9...8... The dark mist in the containment tank, which stands around 6 feet tall, looks on questioningly ...7...6...5... It seems frightened somehow ...4...3...2... It doesn't like the feeling at all, it grows more active and aggressive ...1... it attacks the side of the tank ...0... Amplified sunlight shoots through the magnified lens of the container. 'SCCRRREEEEEEE' it screams in agony its body starts thicken and expand breaking the containment tank.
Professor: NO! Engage containment priority 2!
Other Scientists: We are unable to engage! It's gotten through the system by electrical circuits.
Professor: Complete Lockdown NOW! (Everything goes dark) Do a scan of the entire system, then a heat scan of the building, and a radioactive scan. We need to contain this immediately. (Eddie starts to back away)
Other Scientists: Radioactive and heat scans show disturbances in this room. Near the specimen tanks...
Eddie looks to his right--specimen tanks. As soon as he realizes it, the dark matter creature attacks him. The struggle knocks Eddie everywhere breaking glass beakers and splattering liquids on the floor. The creature phases into Eddie, and he falls to the floor writhing in agony. He suddenly stops. Slowly, he gets up with the most alien look on his face, not that the professor could see his face very well in the dark.
Professor: Eddie? Are you ok?
Eddie: I am now. Remember how I used my cells for bonding the matter with it? Well, I think the creature wants to be completely bonded, like an addiction.
Eddie, with perfect accuracy, grabs the professor by throat, instantly crushing his air tube, tosses him across the lab into the eradication system, it malfunctions in a blaze of sparks and a countdown to the destruction of the plant begins. With the lockdown in progress none of the other scientists can escape. Eddie, now taller, more broad and darker haired, shoots through the ground as if it wasn't even there just as the countdown finishes and the lab explodes in a brilliant display of fire and gas. Miles away, in the middle of nowhere, Eddie bursts out of the ground just in time to see the death of hundreds of scientists go up in smoke. He looks at his body in amazement, 'I've always wanted power...' he thinks to himself. He flies towards a city leaving behind a trail of dark haze slightly covering up a sign: Welcome to New York City. __________________
