I'm on a slow connection, so I'm only halfway through so far (and YouTube is not showing the grey progress bar, so I have no idea how much it has left to load. Grr), but I will say what's been said before:
A great Superman theme is sweeping and you can hear "Superman" in the lyrics. This dates back to the 40s cartoons, continues through the Donner movies and is also present in the Bruce Timm animated series.
My bit: Superman needs something grand and majestic. No vocals, just music. Vocals can date a song so easily. Notice how timeless the theme is for Superman: The Movie. You hear it and you know the movie will be epic, and that's always how Superman should feel.
This song, while a nice song, is too timid. The whole thing doesn't shout "Superman" so much as "inspired by Superman". It's something I'd expect on one of those secondary soundtracks (you know, not the score, but the pop songs that usually never were in the movie).
It goes to my theory of heroes' theme songs, though, as well as the feel their movies should take. Superman needs something full and epic, as his movies should have an epic feel. Batman needs something gothic and brooding, fitting his tortured soul and the grim and dark feel of his movies. Wonder Woman, though defined by the Lynda Carter show theme, really needs something that hearkens back to mythological times, to fit her history and the story that would be befitting of a Greek drama. The Flash could easily use a pop song, but a peppy, zippy one, fitting a fun, fast-paced movie. __________________All the bad things in life only help you appreciate the good even more.
