Okay so I went to the bookstore today and saw this book on the shelf called Timeriders. Thinking of Tim's character I picked it up and looked at the back to read the summary.

I think they may have stolen Tim's idea. Although not superhero or exactly as Tim has written his stories it is a similar concept.

There is no hero named Time-Rider however it is about a government agency that monitors time travel and that isn't supposed to exist. This sounds pretty similar to Tim's American Time Travel Association.

Here is the link to the kindle edition on Amazon so you can kind of see for yourself what the book is about.

Timeriders

If nothing else this may prove to be an interesting read for those interested in Time-travel. I thought I should at least bring it to Tim's attention.

It actually just came out. On Amazon it is a preorder for Aug 2010 for the hardcopy so I don't think it's even in the States yet. But over here in the UK its on the store shelves already.

I'm going to have to research this. It does seem kind of coincidental.

Yeah, the grabbing people before they die thing was like Time-Rider and Davey Crockett.

This must mean that your idea is good enough to be published Tim.

Yeah, it's encouraging and discouraging at the same time. Not sure what to think.

If you never published Time Rider isn't it hard tp prove that these/this person stole your idea? Or does it even matter that you never published Time Rider?

I don't think an intellectual property needs to be "published" for someone to prove they had the idea first. The site itself is Tims proof. Especially since the date of posts comes up on the screen with the images and short stories we post here.

Exactly. The only thing is whether or not you can prove the other person's story and characters closely match what you've done enough to justify a lawsuit. I'd say whether you won or not would be up the judge you got I guess.

It's not exactly a legal copyright but I think the date of post would help any of us creators on the site to defend our creations in a court case. My wife is always nervous that someone will take my character designs or one of my stories and then blammo next thing you know someone else publishes Raven or The Executioner. But I think I would have recourse through the simple fact that the site is set up the way it is.

So you are gonna settle this in court or not?

I'm not the suing kind of guy, but if it gets really popular I'll have to look more into it. Maybe get the book and see how similar it is.

I think you should buy it, read it. If it is similar to your hero, call the guys and take some of the cred! Or just sue them for taking your hero.

Wow I didn't mean to start anything with this post. I just thought it was a big coincidence and wanted Tim to know about it.

Now everyone is talking about suing people and what not.

Though I have to agree with Bono that at least this site is set up in a way that we can prove when our stories/characters/artwork was posted if it ever came down to going to court.

For questions on copyright law I think ask JK Rowling for advice. I know I had to shelf my 7 part epic about a young boy called Potter Harrison and his battle with the forces of magical evil at Summer Camp.

I was just kidding.
But the cover on the book you posted Midnight, looks good. If it ever comes to Sweden, I'll buy it.

I know your pain wayne. Imagine my surprise when I couldn't publish my Trilogy, The Lord Of The Things about a race of tiny creatures called horbits that live in a world called In Between Earth. I was bummed.

I remember the Time I wrote a comic book called Dr. Surreal about an MD who lost the use of his arms. Then he had to travel to the rocky mountains to see if the Eldest one had the power to heal his arms. He didn't so the Eldest one trained him in the ways of the Magic paints so he could take the Eldest one's place as Earth's Main Magician. You've probably heard of some of Dr. Surreals villians Like Baro Mordon and the Devilish Dormamastad.
