Jonathan Kent. What the heck? I thought Smallville was supposed to keep with the comics? Isn't Jonathan Kent in the comic books when Clark becomes Superman?

Yeah, Jonathan is alive in the current comic book storylines. It was way back in the 1970's they had him killed off before Clark becomes Superman as told in the Superman the movie.
Personally, I hate that they killed him off. John Schneider is a big part of the show. He keeps it from getting too far out there in unbelievable sci-fi land. Keeps the show grounded so to speak. Makes it more realistic I think.

It was dumb. I wish they would've stayed with the comics, leaving Chloe as the only logical choice.
