The class three starcruiser Shadow Hawk touched down on the planet Mithuna just outside of Gemini Spaceport. Hawk and his 4 man/1 woman crew disembarked cautiously looking around for signs of trouble. Hawk hates spaceports but this stop was a necessary evil. His ship and crew needed to refuel and this planet marked the halfway point from his base of operations on Karka to his destination of Vrsabha.

Being a renegade made Hawk’s caution all the more necessary. If he or his ship were to be spotted by Allied Defense Forces he’d be forcibly arrested. The bounty on his head was upward of thirty million the last time he checked. Hawk’s mind mused as it so often did about what it would be like if he could turn himself in and collect the reward. He also realized his crew probably had the same thoughts from time to time and he had to keep a vigilant eye out for signs of mutiny.

A bouncer stood at the door to the bar they were headed towards; by the looks of him Hawk placed him as a member of the Orangutani “apeman” tribe from the planet Simha. Ferocious warriors as he recalled. It would not do to rile this man up during their visit. He made a slight head nod in the Orangutani’s direction for the benefit of his crewmates and they all nodded their understanding.

Upon entering the bar Hawk noted the loud obnoxious disco music. He would not stay in here long, a quick drink, bite to eat and then back outside for a smoke before reloading his starcruiser. Straddling a bar stool he saw the most amazing Mithunaen girl he had ever lain eyes on. Her sky blue hair flowed down her back in waves just reaching the tip of her buttocks.

Hawk made a beeline for the unoccupied stool next to hers and ordered a drink from the bartender. He sat there for a few moments plucking up the courage to make small talk. After half a glass of whisky he decided now was as good a time as any.

“Hello there gorgeous, the name’s Hawk Hawthorne” he said extending his hand.

“Not interested” she replied and continued to sip the colorful mixed drink she held in her own hand.

“But you don’t even know what I’m selling yet” Hawk continued trying to keep her attention.

“From you’re opening line and the un-bathed stench you’re wearing I’d say I don’t want to know what you’ve got in mind.”

“Why you little” Hawk said raising his hand in anger.

Before he could so much as strike the blue haired woman the Orangutani bouncer was beside him laying a hairy extremely muscled large hand on Hawk’s shoulder. Then the apeman swung him around on his stool and picked him up by the arms. With drool falling from his mouth the Orangutani bared his teeth in a ferocious snarl.

“Get out…here…now!” and with that command the Simha native threw Hawk straight at the door.

Hawk’s body hit the door and forced it open letting him come crashing to a halt outside in the street. He sat up rubbing his head and tried to focus. His head spun and his eyes blurred making it extremely hard. Then he heard sirens and shouts in the distance. Finally able to see he looked around and saw that it was indeed the Allied Defense Forces heading in his direction. Someone inside must’ve recognized him.

The Shadow Hawk’s crew came rushing out at the sound dragging the blue haired girl with them “thought you might need somethin’ to negotiate with boss” said the muscle bound woman of the crew Gretchen.

“Might as well take her, this is all her fault anyway” Hawk said grabbing her wrist “you should’ve just accepted my earlier offer.”

The crew raced toward the ship but the ADF managed to cut them off just before they could reach the ramp of their ship. Hawk drew his dirk and readied himself for battle. His crew did the same as they made a stand against the authorities.

“Hawk Hawthorne you are under arrest by the ADF for thirty-six counts of piracy, fifteen counts of possession with intent to sell, and eight counts of murder.”

“Blah blah blah, I know what I’ve done” Hawk said “tell me something I don’t know.”

The ADF spokesman drew a pistol and pointed it at the renegade. But before he could open fire Gretchen tackled him to the ground and began pounding him with her overly large manly fists. The other ADF members rushed the crew, swords raised. Hawk dodged one and stabbed the man in the gut with his knife. The man dropped his sword and fell clutching his stomach trying to staunch the bleeding.

His crewmates held their own as long as possible allowing Hawk, the blue haired girl, and the Shadow Hawk’s pilot Yarkoon to make it up the ramp and onto the starcruiser. As Yarkoon readied the ship for takeoff Hawk watched the battle raging outside his viewport. Gretchen was shot by the ADF and her lifeless body was pushed off the launch pad into the watery depths below by a muddy boot.

Next to fall was Hawk’s longtime mechanic Gyro. The man never was a warrior; the ADF beheaded him in what seemed like slow motion. Any other fighter would’ve been able to avoid the attack. Bleeding heavily from his left arm, Alex Stalker, Hawk’s second in command stumbled aboard the ship just in time for Yarkoon to hit the engines and blastoff from the planet’s surface.

“They arrived too quickly” Stalker said still clutching his wound.

“The bar must be under surveillance” Hawk responded “let’s check on our guest and find out exactly who she is.”

Hawk and Alex marched into the cargo hold where the blue haired girl was left bound and gagged upon boarding the ship. Hawk undid the gag and slapped her hard across the face. Satisfied by her yelp of pain he smiled.

“Just who are you?”

“Nobody” she replied.

“Then how did the ADF arrive so fast?”

“I’m not one of them if that’s what you’re getting at.”

“Then what are you?”

“Like I said a nobody.”

“What’s your name?”

“Skylar…Skylar Blu” she responded hesitantly.

“Skylar Blu? What a perfect name for a blue haired girl don’t you think Alex?”

“Sure thing Hawk, perfect name. You want me to keep up the interrogation while you get back to more important things?” Alex Stalker asked with a mischievous grin on his face.

“No, no I’d kind a like to do this one myself” Hawk answered “why don’t you go get yourself bandaged up and then see if Yarkoon needs help.”

Disappointed Alex nodded and left the hold making his way for the medical bay. Well it was called a bay but in actuality it was a metal locker containing a first aid kit and various other odds and ends. He found some bandages and peroxide and got to the nasty work of cleaning and dressing his wound.

That's what I'm trying to do anyways. I really love science fiction stories.

Maybe I'll be a professional SciFi/Fantasy writer when I grow up

That's a toughie, I'd have to say the original Star Wars trilogy is what hooked me on SciFi. All the books I read from the expanded universe since then I really liked alot.

Fantasy wise I'd have to say The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher is a really good series as well as the Inheritance Trilogy/Cycle by Christopher Paolini. Those are perhaps my favorites at the moment.

I do as often as I can. Not nearly as often as I'd like.

I just finished reading Dominion by Fred Sabherhagen(not sure on the spelling of the last name) it's a book from the early eighties but I got it at a thrift store for a quarter about three weeks ago. Didn't like the ending but otherwise a pretty good read.

I actually picked up the novel adaptation of the first Metal Gear Solid game as well for a quarter and have started reading that one this week.
