As the dimensional rift opened, a man stepped through wearing a white costume with black mask and matching cape. He appeared to be a doppelganger of the vigilante Shadow Hawk with colors reversed. He smiled as he stepped his foot down on the firm soil and the rift closed behind him. This was a new world, a place where he could lose his pursuers and start anew.
“There’s no way that b!%@# can find me now” he swears aloud “I should be able to move forward with my plans of global conquest without further hindrance.”
Laughing manically he looks around and proclaims to the city “soon you will tremble beneath the might that is Negahawk!”
An elderly couple looks at him in annoyance at the outburst as they continue on their way. He looks back at them curiously, wondering why they pay him little heed. Then he fires off several nega-stars from his gauntlets ripping the two old people to shreds. Their lifeless bodies fall to pavement as blood oozes into the gutter.
“You will learn to fear me!” Negahawk shouts out again catching the attention of several more people who this time screams out at the sight of the dead bodies.
A patrol car arrives, siren wailing, and the uniformed officer inside jumps out drawing his sidearm. He points it in the direction of this murderer before issuing his command “give it up Shadow Hawk! Remove the gauntlets and place your hands above your head!”
“Who is this Shadow Hawk you speak of” the newcomer replies “I am Negahawk, criminal mastermind!”
“We know it’s you Shadow Hawk, just because you changed the color of your costume doesn’t mean you’ve fooled us!”
Negahawk looks at him curiously now. Does he in fact have a twin in this dimension? If that is the case then it reasons his pursuer, the Noble Eagle, has one as well. Interesting turn of events this is. He will have to look into the matter. But first he must escape!
A news van arrives on the scene and the cameraman quickly sets up and starts taping. The images are sent transmitted live to the thousands of viewers watching from home. Meanwhile more and more police show up including the SWAT team and detective’s Stonecipher and Lawrence.
“Shadow Hawk this isn’t like you” Tony Stonecipher speaks into the bullhorn he just took away from the uniformed officer “we fought together only recently and you didn’t strike me as a coward!”
“Coward, who are you to call the mighty Negahawk a coward?”
“What would you call killing an elderly couple?” the detective shoots back.
All of this plays out on the television screen before the astonished eyes of Jessica and Sebastian. The two of them are sitting closely on the couch squeezing each other’s hands in disbelief. John had left this morning saying he had something important to take care of alone. Could this really be what he had planned? Alicia was gone as well, saying she needed to do some more research on the woman who took over her company.
Jess looked into Sebastian’s eyes and said “I’m suiting up. If John’s gone over the edge I may be the only one capable of getting through to him.”
“It’s too dangerous” Sebastian replies clutching her hand to halt her “I should go.”
“No you need to contact Alicia, besides I’m his sister he’ll listen to me.”
Talon swings into view as the standoff continues between the police and Negahawk. She drops to the street positioning herself in the middle of both sides. Then she looks her brother, or who she thought to be her brother, in the face and gives him a disapproving look.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing? Having you completely lost it?”
Negahawk stares back at her and a look of relief floods over him “how did you get out of prison?”
“Have you completely lost it? I’ve never been to prison.”
“But you’ve been locked away for years” Negahawk responds, but then he takes a better look at her costume and realizes the color scheme is all wrong “you are not Slasher, yet the resemblance is uncanny. You must be her double from this world.”
“You aren’t making any sense” Talon replies “if you don’t stop this I’ll have to take you down!”
Victor Heavy saw the scene from a t.v. screen in an electronic store window. He rushed over donning a small black eye mask and pulling on a black t-shirt with the shape of a hawk, which he had done himself using white spray-paint, adorning its chest.
This imposter would not smear Shadow Hawk’s name while Victor was around. He knew this was not the same man who had rescued him the other day. No Shadow Hawk was a hero and this man was anything but. He rushed up to Talon’s side weighing his chances against Shadow Hawk’s evil twin.
“Get out of here kid” Talon says to him “you might get hurt.”
Victor looks her up and down sizing her up then he responds “you can’t be much older than me. Besides I can take care of myself.”
Taken aback by the abruptness of his response Talon can only ask “who are you?”
Thinking this over Victor quickly replies “I’m Shadow Boy!”
Then without waiting for her to say anything more to him Victor runs towards Negahawk his fists clenched tightly ready to deliver a devastating blow. Negahawk however sees him coming and opens his hand palm outward unleashing an energy barrier as solid as a brick wall. Shadow Boy crashes into it and is knocked off his feet.
‘John’s gloves can’t do that’ Jessica thinks to herself realizing with some relief that this isn’t her brother “it’s time to take off the kiddie gloves” she says aloud as she fires off two explosive hawk-stars.
The stars explode harmlessly against the invisible barrier. Negahawk smiles and unleashes his own nega-stars in her direction. Talon somersaults out of the way and moves behind a patrol car for cover. The cops open fire now hoping one of their bullets will slip through his defenses.
Tony Stonecipher rushes over to Talon’s side “if you’re partner doesn’t stop we’re going to have to kill him!”
“That’s not Shadow Hawk” Talon says “I’m not sure who he is but it’s not my partner.”
“Well then, where is Shadow Hawk?”
“Good question” Talon says “I wish I knew.”
Another dimensional rift opens at that moment and a costumed woman steps through. Her suit is purple with the emblem of an eagle sew on both upper arms. A shiny golden badge is attached to her belt symbolizing some sort of law enforcement agency. In her hand rests a pistol trained on the back of the Negahawk’s head.
“You should have known better than to run” she says to him “I never give up the chase.”
“This is impossible” Negahawk cries out in rage “how could you track me here?”
While the two conversed Shadow Boy and Talon moved in. Victor launches himself at Negahawk, tackling the costumed criminal from behind. As the two struggle with one another, Talon stands over them ready to intervene if necessary. Finally Negahawk is subdued by Shadow Boy. As Talon makes to apprehend him the other lady steps in her path.
“Not so fast, he’s mine” she says “I’ve chased this dog too long for him to be taken in by someone else.”
“Just what is going on here?” Tony Stonecipher says heatedly “this man is a criminal and he will be coming with us.”
“No he won’t. By authority of the Negaverse Retrieval Agency he will be coming with me.”
“Seriously the NRA is this a joke?” Tony replies thinking about his membership to the National Rifle Association.
“Noble Eagle doesn’t joke” the woman replies angrily as she slaps cuffs around Negahawk’s wrists.
Then she steps back through the dimensional portal, her prisoner in tow. The rift closes quickly leaving everyone else staring at the spot, stunned by what had just occurred. Talon recognized the voice of Noble Eagle. Somehow she was Alicia Martin but she couldn’t be, could she?
Talon wasn’t sure what to believe anymore. Having a standoff with her brother’s doppelganger has left her more confused than ever. What’s more there seemed to be another vigilante in town now. This Shadow Boy as he called himself seems to have slipped away during the commotion. Could this boy really be a new ally?
