The top of Toll Hill…
The silver furred werewolf stands up straight looking down at the two were-cats who now bow before him “master we have failed you, please have mercy” they purred in unison.
“Mercy is for the weak” he replied “however I still have need of you. The hunters are upon us because of your failure. So you will rectify that by stopping them.”
A few other were-beasts looked on. There were about 4 more wolves, another cat this one a lioness, and even a couple of brown bears. They all looked ready for the battle that was coming.
Darius swore out loud as he recognized the leader “that is Silver Fang. The most ferocious werewolf this side of the Atlantic not even silver bullets can stop him.”
Darius Bludd walked in the center of the fanned out line that consisted of Shadow Hawk and Talon on his right, and detective’s Tony Stonecipher and Jackie Lawrence on his left. A spectator would have noted the similarities between this and a wild western showdown for the were-beasts had lined up as well. The humans were outnumbered but that in no way dissuaded them from fighting.
Something streaked across the sky above them and they all looked up. Sebastian King in the Cyber Hawk suit had come to join the fray. He landed beside Shadow Hawk and marched up Toll Hill with the rest of them. Silver Fang and his Were-Breed howled in fury as they all extended their claws.
Then the battle began. Cheetara picking Talon out of the pack of humans came charging at 30 mph. She close lined Talon with her left arm and then began slashing out towards her face. Talon blocked with her gauntlets and sliced back with her blades. Cheetara was fast, too fast. Talon could barely manage to block much less counter attack.
Jackie Lawrence fired off a couple of rounds of her police issue .9mm at the Tigress but the were-cat only smiled as the bullets tore her flesh. Then the cat was upon her slashing with her long claws. Jackie managed to block with her forearm and then began pistol-whipping the Tigress. A roar of hatred halted the assault and Tigress sliced the detective’s leg. Jackie dropped to one knee, blood gushing from her injury. She thought she was a goner this time. But then a small metal hawk-star whizzed by slicing into the Tigress’ throat.
The cat dropped and Jackie looked up to see Talon standing over Cheetara’s lifeless body and her gauntleted hand pointed in the direction of the Tigress.
A werewolf and two were-bears attacked next. Shadow Hawk and Cyber Hawk fought back with wrist blades. Tony Stonecipher drew forth a samurai sword. The detective had acquired this blade after his run in with the Were-Breed as a rookie. He vowed that he would cut their heads off if he ever ran across them again. And so it would be.
Shadow Hawk and a bear traded blows neither one gaining an upper hand. The bear was stronger but Shadow Hawk was quicker. The bear gripped Shadow Hawk in a bear hug squeezing the breath out of him. John managed to trigger the emergency switch on his belt buckle activating a blinding light that caused the bear to let go and shield its eyes.
John delivered an uppercut with his wrist blade driving the tip up into the bear’s skull. The beast dropped to the ground lifeless. And Shadow Hawk breathed a sigh of relief as he gulped in the cool night air trying to catch his breath.
Cyber Hawk unleashed half a dozen tranquilizer darts into the fur of the oncoming werewolf. The beast went down immediately and began to snore loudly. Sebastian smiled at John and said “don’t you wish you’d use the new upgrades?”
Tony Stonecipher and the other bear slashed at each other only to be blocked again and again. Then the bear dropped to all fours and rammed his head into Tony’s stomach causing him to drop the sword. The detective rolled out of the way of another slash and retrieved his blade. Then he thrust it upwards in a killing arc decapitating the strong beast.
Finally Silver Fang decided it was time to act. He roared in a fury unmatched by any of the beasts so far. He barred his sharp fangs in challenge and Darius Bludd smiled grimly. The two foes would finally meet on the battlefield. And this time one of them would fall. The last time Darius had unloaded nine rounds into Silver Fang and left him for dead. That was over a year ago. Silver Fang had survived. Darius Bludd would not make the same mistake twice. He would not leave until it was finished.
The hunter fired off six shots from his .44 Magnum. He knew the silver bullets wouldn’t stop the beast but it would at least slow him down a bit. Then he threw the gun in Silver Fang’s direction. The werewolf caught it in his mouth and bit down. But the gun could not be bitten through. Then he heard a beeping noise and the gun exploded.
The gun itself was made of silver. The shards jammed up into the roof of Silver Fang’s mouth causing him tremendous pain. Then he saw the detonator in Darius’ hand. He tried to roar but the pain was too much. Then he brought his paws up to his mouth and felt around. His fangs, his beautiful fangs were gone. The detonation knocked them out. His mouth was now useless.
“Hurts don’t it?” Darius taunted the werewolf “serves you right.”
Silver Fang ripped a small tree from the ground and hurled it at Darius Bludd. The trunk slammed into him and pinned him to the ground. Then the werewolf was upon him. Slashing wildly at his legs, Shadow Hawk, Cyber Hawk, and Talon were there to help Darius Bludd. They tackled the wolf as a team giving the hunter time to recover.
The two detectives, Stonecipher and Lawrence helped Darius lift the tree. Then the three of them watched the Darkhawks tangle with the werewolf. Talon was on the beasts back while Shadow Hawk was hanging on its left arm. Cyber Hawk was on the right as the beast swung them around trying to break free of their grips.
“They can’t win” Darius said to the other two “Silver Fang is too strong. They need to use this” he said pulling a small wooden dagger from his belt.
Jackie Lawrence looked at him as if he were crazy, Darius winked at her “it’s made of wolfsbane. It’s the only thing that will kill a higher werewolf.”
Tony grabbed the dagger and ran towards Silver Fang. The wolf had managed to free himself of Shadow Hawk and Cyber Hawk but Talon remained rooted to his back. She had dug her wrist blades into his back cementing her place there. Tony managed to stab him in the stomach as his attention was elsewhere.
Silver Fang wailed in pain and his claws clutched at the wolfsbane dagger. He tried to pull it out but could not grip it with his paws. But Tony didn’t push the blade deep enough and the werewolf managed to work it free.
Shadow Hawk picked up the dagger while Cyber Hawk struggled to subdue the beast. Once Silver Fang was pinned beneath the combined weight of Cyber Hawk, Talon, and Tony Stonecipher, Shadow Hawk plunged the dagger into the beast’s eye.
Silver Fang’s body convulsed violently throwing the heroes off of him. Then it began to change, change back into the form of a man. The man’s face was nearly identical to that of Darius Bludd’s except several years older.
The remaining Were-Breed fled while they could disappear into the shadows of the night.
Darius stood with help from Jackie and looked down upon the lifeless body of his enemy “he was my older brother once, before the wolf took over.”
