Secret room somewhere in the city…
Gray Mist stands over Alicia’s unconscious body. She had backhanded the stubborn brat after her refusal to give in to her demands. She would have control of Sojourn soon, even if she had to forge the brat’s signature. Her only regret was the sacrifice of Ashigaru. He was a really loyal companion. She would have to send some robotic drones to break him out after she was done here.
She smiled at the thought of being reunited with her lover. It had been cruel of her to sacrifice him. But it was either him or her and she knew he’d forgive her. If not she would scrap him like all the rest. No matter for now she needed to call Barry, her large African American friend, in to clean up this mess. He might as well dispose of her body. Vicki Vapor would forge an entire Will leaving the company solely into her own capable hands.
The rooftop of Police HQ…
Shadow Hawk waits silently for his meeting with Detective Stonecipher. He had Sebastian call ahead and schedule it for him. He had a lead and wanted to share with the police. John doubted the coroner would even do an autopsy on the body. But he also knew it would take more than just him to track down the killer.
Tony opened the door from the stairwell that led onto the roof. He really hadn’t expected the vigilante to be waiting. He figured the caller for a crank. He was wrong this time. It wouldn’t hurt to hear this man out. So he stopped in the doorway and waited.
“Thanks for meeting me” Shadow Hawk said, his voice changer emitting a rough sound as though he had smoked too much and his lungs were paying the price.
“What do you want?”
“I have an ID on your murder victim. His name’s Thomas Frank, better known as Tommy Two-Toes to the homeless community. I also have some interesting facts printed up here for you” he said handing a large manila folder to the detective.
Tony took the folder but didn’t open it up “and why do we care about the identity of this sewer rat? Unless you have an ID on the perp then the police won’t bother investigating.”
“What happened to you guys?” Shadow Hawk asked “when Jonathon Dark was police chief you actually tried to uphold the law. Now you let guys get away with murder.”
“What do you know about Jonathon? He was like a father to me” Tony said raising his voice to a near shout “you know nothing about him!”
“I know more than you think Tony” he replied “I’ll let you in on a little secret too. I found the b@$% that killed him. The guy whose name was given to your precinct and I did what you wouldn’t. I brought him to justice!”
“Where is he then? Why haven’t we heard of a trial date?”
“Not your idea of justice, but street justice. He won’t hurt anyone ever again.”
“If you’re saying what I think you’re saying then I’m going to have to arrest you for murder” Tony said pulling his handcuffs out of his pocket.
“Not going to happen Tony. Not even on your best day” Shadow Hawk said jumping off the roof and firing a grappler from his gauntlet.
Detective Tony Stonecipher watched as the vigilante swung away through the city and swore silently under his breath. Only then did he take a look at the contents in the manila folder. Something caught his eye and he rushed down the stairs toward the forensics lab.
Meanwhile…
Barry Floyd had stashed Alicia Martin’s body in the trunk of his black Cadillac and was now heading toward the docks. He had strict orders from Gray Mist. ‘Put a bullet in the back of her head and dump her in the ocean’. And Barry always followed orders, always.
As he arrived he hoisted her out of the trunk and threw her roughly on the ground. The jolt woke her up with a grunt. He then pulled her up on her knees and turned her away from him. Barry hated looking them in the eyes while he did this. It creeped him out to watch their eyes go lifeless. Then he attached the silencer to his semiautomatic and pushed it into the back of her head.
She screamed then a muffled scream from beneath a layer of duct tape. She was pleading with him to spare her. How pathetic that was. He would not, could not spare her. No Barry always followed orders, always. So he squeezed the trigger and watched as her body lurched forward, blood oozing out of the wound.
But before he could shove the body into the water he saw a blinding white light. And then the body was gone. What the hell just happened? How could a body vanish like that? Then he felt his jaw ache and he remembered. But that’s not the way it happened. He was confused now. His mind befuddled with conflicting events. Like something out of the twilight zone.
An alternate moment ago…
As Barry hoisted Alicia out of the trunk of his car a mysterious man watched. He had arrived at this moment to witness what had been predicted actually coming true. There were bigger plans in store for Alicia Martin and he could not let her murder happen.
He rushed over and hit Barry with an uppercut knocking him backwards. When Barry got back to his feet, the mysterious man scooped up Alicia in his arms and disappeared in a flash of white light. Barry stood, his mouth gaping with a very confused look on his face.
“What the hell just happened?” he asked himself as the memory of two realities fought for control of his sanity.
In an undisclosed location…
The alien, known as Max, congratulated the newest member of his Lost Heroes on a job well done. This new time traveler had taken the place of the Time Rider, John Martin, after his return to his previous life. *see the last issue of Tim Frady’s Time Rider to find out what happened to him*
Max had chosen to intervene in Alicia Martin’s death simply because of her relationship to John Martin. She was his granddaughter after all and Max deemed her life worth his attention. Besides what would her death do to her cousin Luke? He needed Seven to stay sharp and a death in the family would make that near impossible.
“Okay Time-Stream now I need you to drop Alicia off in the care of Shadow Hawk, he’ll be able to take care of her. Afterwards you are to rendezvous with Cyber Jack in the Himalayas; he’ll brief you on the situation once you’re there.”
“The Himalayas, what could possibly warrant our attention there?”
“The Yeti” Max replied “or as you probably know him, the Abominable Snowman.”
“You’re joking?”
But the look on Max’s face told Time-Stream that he was anything but joking. Could this alien even joke? Time-Stream wasn’t so sure he had yet to see him even smile. Oh well better do as the boss says. This is only his first day on the job after all. Got to make a good first impression. __________________
