“Raptor, use your telekinesis to try and keep the building together as long as possible” Sebastian ordered as he flew through one of the upper windows to conduct a search and rescue.

“No you don’t girlie” Gray Mist said “you will not prevent these pests from dying the death they deserve. I will have my revenge!”

As she took a step towards Raptor, Talon tackled her to the ground “no you don’t!”

Gray Mist swung her energy sword up trying to shear off Talon’s arms so she could get back up. Talon’s wrist blades blocked the attack. Then she slammed her right blade into Gray Mist’s left shoulder damaging the controls for her arm. Gray Mist’s fingers slackened releasing the sword as her arm became useless.

She chose this moment to enter her misty form to escape from beneath Talon. Then she floated away with the breeze leaving Ashigaru to take the fall for the destruction. Talon tied the cyborg up with a spare grappling cable and watched as Sebastian set two people down on the pavement before returning into the building for more.

“I can’t hold the building much longer” Raptor said to Talon as blood dripped from her nose from the strain.

Taking this as her cue, Talon ran into the building at the ground floor to start rescue efforts below while Sebastian continued high above. In the end Raptor fainted from the drain that her telekinesis took on her mental strength and the building came down hard.

Talon barely managed to shove a group of people out of the way before a slab of concrete fell on her. Sebastian dropped two more people off and swooped in close to where Talon had fallen. His cybernetic suit increased his strength just enough to lift the concrete wall that trapped her beneath it. Sebastian shoved it to the side and looked her up and down letting the medical scanners in his mask examine her for internal injuries.

Satisfied that she would live he picked her up in his arms and carried her over to where Raptor lay unmoving. Then he scanned her as well. She would be okay. Sebastian then took count of the civilians. Between him and Talon they managed to save a hundred and twenty-three people in under five minutes. The rest didn’t make it out including company president Sylvia Martin, Raptor’s mother though he didn’t know that at the time.

Meanwhile in England…

“Glad I caught you at home” Shadow Hawk said from the dark corner where he crouched.

Ethan McKnight, Count of Carrion, turned suddenly at the sound of the dark voice clenching his fists ready to defend himself. Shadow Hawk smiled at this but remained rooted to the spot as he watched the count through his night vision lenses.

“What do you want?”

Shadow Hawk answered “you mean you don’t care who I am? Just what I’m after, well let’s get straight to business then shall we? I want to know everything you know about the Greek.”

“Listen here I already phoned the police in the States and told them everything I know. He’s just a hired gun who was working for the Russian Crime Syndicate trying to acquire mystical artifacts. He was also my kidnapper. I don’t know anything else except his real name, Marcus Deimus.”

“So you have no idea where he’s gone off too? Do you know that he is still in Britain?”

“What? You mean he hasn’t fled to some far off place to hide?”

“Not according to my Intel.”

“So you’re after him then?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“The policeman he killed was a close friend of mine” Shadow Hawk replied careful not to reveal that they were related.

“Mind if I come along?” the Count asked.

“Too dangerous” Shadow Hawk replied.

“I have my own vendetta with him” the Count countered “at least let me send along a representative.”

“What do you mean?”

“Have you heard of the Rook? I have him on retainer and he is more than capable of handling himself. He will go with you.”

“As long as he doesn’t get in my way” Shadow Hawk said threateningly.

“Then it’s agreed. I also know someone else who may be able to help. Detective Inspector Erin Cross of New Scotland Yard, she was one of my rescuers. The Rook knows where to find her.”

To be continued…
