In the heart of the Bermuda Triangle sets a derelict aircraft carrier known as the U.S.S. Avenger. This floating wreckage is now used as a staging ground for Captain Midnight in his war against evil. Along with his partner Lolita, he has now assembled a small group of heroes willing to join him in his cause. This team has decided to become known to the world as “The Midnight Avengers” based on their leader and the ship they now call home.

“That about does it” Sebastian King says cheerfully “the Guardian computer system is fully functional. It can connect you to any satellite in space just like its brother in Saint Katherine’s Bay.” *reference to Shadow Hawk’s supercomputer Sentinel housed in the Citadel*

“Appreciate the help Sebastian” Captain Midnight says extending his hand “are you sure you can’t stay longer?”

“No I really need to get back. Shadow Hawk left me in charge of monitoring the city while he’s away. But I’ve fully briefed Lolita on the Guardian’s operation so you should be fine” he says shaking the offered hand.

“Alright team I need everyone assembled on the bridge ASAP” Captain Midnight says into the intercom system.

Within minutes the four of them were sitting at a table to discuss their current task “Belphegor has not been spotted since he left the cave” Lolita began “is it possible he too evaporated when Ignis Fatuus died?”

“Possible but unlikely” Seamus replied “most creatures do rely on their masters power for survival. However Belphegor is one of the Grigori and not just a servant like Swinedego was. After studying the runes which the sorcerer used leads me to believe that the troll demon is still on our plane but maybe he’s in hiding.”

“What would he be hiding from?” Voltage asked.

“Hard to say, he may just be biding his time until he can find another sorcerer to summon the other Grigori” Seamus concluded.

“Then we need to find him before that happens” Cole said with a determined look on his face “Lolita, let’s see if this Guardian is everything Sebastian says it is.”

“Found something” Lolita said shocked at the quickness of the computer “there’s something large moving around on Zonbi Isle off the cost of Japan.”

“Voltage teleport on ahead and scout out the area” Captain Midnight ordered “the rest of us will get airborne and head that way.”

“No problem” he replied as he disappeared in a crackling field of electricity.

“Good thing we salvaged one of the small passenger planes” Seamus said as he headed toward the flight deck Lolita in tow.

Captain Midnight himself took flight using his powers and maintained the speed of the Gulfstream jet as he flew just above it. Lolita had proven very knowledgeable in computers and aircraft technology making herself the logical choice as pilot of the small plane.

As they continued eastward the weather threatened to turn violent as waterspouts shot up at them as thunder crashed amongst the clouds. Halfway there lightning crackled inside the plane causing Voltage to appear.

“It’s a demon alright and boy does he pack a punch” he said as he collapsed into a chair, his face covered in blood and a large gash in his stomach. Voltage summoned his remaining strength causing the electricity to course through his body. As his body crackled with energy it began to mend itself slowly.

Zonbi Isle…

“Sorceress, you can not hide from Belphegor!”

The loud bellowing sound shook the foundation of the small fortress in the center of the island. Eliza Trent was furious at the interruption. She had more important things to do than cater to another’s whims. Summoning her undead minions to surround her, Eliza marched out onto the balcony to take a look at the one who dared interrupt her meditations.

Her jaw dropped as she saw the troll demon that was as tall as her fortress. He seemed delighted that she had come out so quickly at his command. Eliza had to force herself to remain calm. Her undead soldiers remained impassive as they set up a perimeter around their mistress.

“What do you want from me?”

“Open the gateway and allow my brethren to cross over to this plane and I will let you live” Belphegor replied.

“I have no fear of dying demon” Eliza countered “do you not see that I am comfortable among the dead?”

With a loud ROAR, Belphegor reached out with his giant hand and scooped up three of her zombie soldiers and ground them into dust! Then he kicked at her fortress causing several of the supports to break free. The building rocked as if it was about to topple over. Eliza summoned her power and the ground rose up around the fortress reinforcing it where it had become weakest.

“Do not underestimate my power demon!”

At this moment the Midnight Avengers arrived, Captain Midnight in the lead. He opened fire with his ebony blasts gaining the troll demon’s attention. Seamus jumped out of the plan and did a freefall towards the demons large horns. He caught hold of the right one with his cybernetic left arm and latched on tight as the beast tried to shake him loose.

Horrified at this new threat to her peaceful existence Eliza ordered her skeleton bowmen to let loose with their arrows. With a twang of their bowstrings the archers let go in unison sending the wooden arrows flying toward demon and heroes alike. Several arrows found new homes in the demons thick hide. One nicked Seamus’ thigh and caused him to yelp in pain.

Captain Midnight’s physical resistances protected him from this mediocre assault and he trained his blasts on the skeletons obliterating them in seconds. Eliza then summoned more minions to her aide and sent them charging into battle carrying swords, axes, and spears. Lolita was on the ground now squeezing off round after round from her sidearm and watching as the yellow energy struck their marks.

These undead warriors were easy to kill but they seemed to be reinforced by an unlimited source. Every time one fell three more would take their place. Soon the whole island was overrun by skeletons and zombies. Eliza Trent, the Necromancer, seemed to have disappeared inside her fortress where she remained shielded from the battle raging on outside.

Voltage, finally recovered, attempted to destroy the whole group of undead in one very large and powerful electric blast called forth from the heavens. The thunderbolt struck the center of the group destroying everything it touched. The few remaining undead retreated toward the fortress setting up a barricade around the entrances to protect their mistress.

“Regroup” shouted Captain Midnight over the commotion “we’ll deal with the undead later. Let’s get rid of this demon first!”

As if sensing their new plan of attack Belphegor shrugged off the last dangling skeleton arm and look at them with his trollish face. Clenching his fists he moved toward the group of heroes with murderous intentions. Captain Midnight met him first and caught the giant fist with both his hands. Then twisting it at the wrist he tried to snap the bone. The demon’s skin was too thick for this but the sudden jerking motion caused Belphegor to become unbalanced.

Voltage hit him with a thunderous punch as Seamus hit him with his cybernetic fist causing the beast to finally fall over. Lolita opened fire with her pistol as Cole struck the beast with his own fists. Belphegor rumbled in defiance before managing fling them off of him. Then he climbed back to his feet and brought one down upon their heads.

Seamus surrounded them with a magical shield just in time to prevent their deaths. Captain Midnight caught the foot as he had the fist. This time however it was all he could do to keep it from pushing down further. With all the demons weight behind it he struggled even with his enhanced strength.

The demon and the hero were now at a stalemate. It took the combined efforts of Lolita and Seamus to turn the tide. The alien woman fired off another blast from her pistol and Seamus guided it with magic up the beast’s nose and into its brain. Belphegor screamed in agony as Voltage and Captain Midnight together heaved the beast off its feet to crash into the fortress.

Epilogue…

After hours of digging through the rubble that was once an island fortress the heroes had finally given up hope of finding the Necromancer. Captain Midnight heaved the last stone out of the pile and tossed it into the other pile that they had since created.

“There’s no body” Voltage exclaimed “if she were crushed there should be a body.”

“She must’ve escaped” Lolita concluded.

“Maybe” Cole replied deep in thought “but how can we be sure?”

“She’s definitely alive Captain” Seamus answered “her magical aura has left an underground trail. She must’ve had an escape tunnel.”
