This issue is a short one but it concludes this story arc...

“That should do” Lunar said handing him the charcoal gray uniform and ebony black bracers “this will help hide your identity. This uniform is a darker version of the lighter gray the Avenger Corps wear.”

“Do these bracers work like the crimson ones?”

“Mostly, I engineered these by using the crimson bracers as a blueprint. They still have the capability to unleash energy blasts and constantly provide flight. But the enhanced strength and invulnerability toward physical attack is now constant, except you are still vulnerable to mental or energy, which means you still need to be careful. This gets rid of the need for you to sacrifice energy blasts for temporary strength and invulnerability allowing you to use both at the same time. Now we just need to find a power source for your new ones.”

“Thanks a lot” Cole said slipping into the uniform and attaching the ebony bracers to his wrists “but I also still need to find a way home.”

“No problem. Your bracers are also equipped with a time portal generation unit. Once we get them powered they will take you to any time you choose.”

“Well where do we get this power source?”

“We have to go to Junction City and find Blue.”

With that said Lunar Hawk activated some hidden buttons on her Talon Gauntlets and summoned her desert rover. It looked like a modified dune buggy with armor plating. Then the two of them set off south on a fifty mile trip to Junction City.

When they arrived they found Blue’s laboratory locked up tight. Lunar Hawk pulled out a keycard and pushed it in a slot hidden below a keypad. Then she typed in some numbers and said the password in order to get a voice print match. The door slid open to reveal a dark interior. With Cole in tow she entered, her night vision activating to enhance her sight.

An elderly man was slumped over in a chair barely breathing. He appeared to be in his nineties and very sick. Cole went over to him and checked his pulse. He was still alive but barely. He looked up at Lunar questioningly.

“We need to find his medicine” Lunar said as she started rummaging through a nearby cabinet “look for a really big needle with an orange liquid in it.”

Cole started looking on a shelf that was placed over the sink and he found what they were looking for. He tossed it to Lunar and she stabbed the syringe into Blue’s neck. His eyes went wide as his whole body jerked violently. Then the elderly gentlemen looked up and saw the look of concern on their faces.

“It was my time to go. Why did you revive me?”

“We need your help Blue” Lunar pleaded with the man “Cole here needs to tap into that atomic energy of yours.”

Blue looked Cole Turner over and a smile crept over his face “I haven’t seen you in ages.”

“You know me?” Cole asked.

“Of course, how could I not remember the time Captain Midnight came to me for help? It was for this same reason, déjà vu’ and all that.”

“Do you mean this man is the Captain Midnight?” Lunar asked disbelievingly.

“Wait a minute” Cole said “even if that were true, how could you have known me in 2009 and still be around today?”

“In 2046 I was placed in Cryostasis only to be revived by the Sentinels sixty years ago. The serum has kept me alive this far but my body is tired.”

“Please do this one last thing for us Blue” Lunar pleaded again “it is not right for him to be hunted by the Avenger Corps when he could return to his own time.”

“Okay Lunar, for you I will do this. But once those bracers are powered up and a time portal opened you know the Midnighter’s will be upon us in minutes.”

“I know that’s why I’ve already summoned the Sentinels.”

At that moment a small cargo plane landed on the roof of Blue’s building. Its team disembarked and entered the building. They set up a perimeter around the lab and looked at Lunar expecting an explanation as to why they had been called upon.

“Cole let me introduce you to Fighting Falcon” she said waving her hand in the team leader’s direction and continuing from left to right “Lady Hyde, Superion VI, Neutrino, and Warrior Angel.”

“Guys this is the one and only Captain Midnight” she continued this time introducing him to the team “we have to get him back to his own time. As soon as the portal opens we’ll need to stall the Midnighter’s until he can cross over.”

Blue readied himself and let the greenish power crackle along his fingertips before latching them around the ebony bracers on Cole’s wrists. As the atomic power flowed into the bracers and through Cole’s body it opened up his memories, both timelines flooded into his mind threatening to drive him mad. He remembered his original journey into the future as well as his battle with the large mechanical beasts in 2009. But he also retained his current memories which conflicted with this other knowledge.

“I remember everything now” Cole said at last.

He hesitated to activate the time portal concerned that Lolita had yet to return to him. But then he heard her voice as her body materialized in front of him. She was as beautiful as when he had first laid eyes upon her. She rushed over to hug him and they held each other for a few moments before the sounds of wailing sirens broke their moment of bliss.

“The Midnighter’s are already here” Fighting Falcon shouted “you need to go now” he ordered Cole before motioning his team outside to stand ready.

Cole activated the time portal and a swirling mass of energy appeared before him. It started to pull loose objects towards it as it threatened to drag them all in. He grabbed Lolita’s wrist and together they leapt through the portal. It closed suddenly behind them leaving the lab in disarray as everything that had been neatly put away now covered the floor.

Lunar Hawk and Blue were the only ones left inside. She lifted her metal faceplate and rushed over to him. They kissed in a long goodbye before rushing out to meet their fates at the hands of the Avenger Corps.

“It’ll be good to go down fighting” Blue said to her “but I will miss the times we had together.”

“I love you Blue” Lunar said in reply as her fingers shimmered and become razor sharp talons.

That was  a really cool arc. I like the Sentinels too bad we won't be seing them again, at least not for a while.

thanks for the comments guys.

Don't worry Bono 3 out of 5 Sentinels are decendants of your characters so you see them all the time

I'm not sure its possible to see more of the Sentinels from Lunar and Blue's last moments it seems that the heroes aren't going to survive their encounter with the Midnighter's.

I guess I could go back and do a mini series depicting the team leading up to their encounter with Captain Midnight
