BIG BLUE and ‘The Hunt’ Prologue.
Character Created by Neo Gonzales Story by Wayne Clayton
“Ok everyone if you’d like to follow me we are now going to enter the legendary ‘Valley of Fire’ and see the ancient carvings of the mysterious Anasazi people”
Said Bob, as he watched the Japanese tourist file of the tour bus. He has run this same outing for the last 5 seasons and had grown use to the raising heat radiating of the golden walls of the valley. No one knew why they called it the Valley of Fire but it always attracted the tourist so he didn’t much care.
The main attraction was of course the carvings which lay etched in the desert rocks, older then the local tribes themselves. How old nobody could be sure. The cliff dwellers had left them to the ages and their meanings had been lost in time. Some say they were a warning to the people of the future others that they were merely hunting guides and maps.
Others even believed they showed images of space and the Crab Nebula. People like to dream and if they paid good money to trek out into the desert to see some crumbling graffiti all the better for Bob and his mortgage.
Bob finally herded the party together and they began to stumble up the track. Pausing every now and then to snap themselves standing in front of the fading images.
“If you’d look to your right half way up the valley wall you’ll see the hunting scene. The figures on the left show a hunting party of warriors dressed in ritualistic one eyed masks”
At the end of each sentence Bob was applauded by the sound of whirring cameras and flash bulbs.
“And on the left is the ‘prey’, a mythical two legged beast which carries a forked spear”, “Some experts say this portrays an ancient battle between the Anasazi warriors or defenders and a Sky God. Although some folks say its evidence of aliens”
Bob laughed the same laugh he always laughed at that point in the tour and as always the tourist lapped it up with yet more camera flashes.
“Now if we move on you’ll see…”
Suddenly there came a blinding flash in the sky, followed by a roll of thunder. The whole party turned and looked up into the clear blue sky. Bob looked puzzled as yet another peel of thunder echoed around the valley walls. It wasn’t the rainy season and the forecast as usual was hot as hell.
The next crash of thunder rocked the ground. Everyone looked to Bob for answers.
“There’s no need to panic, I’m sure it’s just a summer storm”
Suddenly the sky was ripped open by a silver flash of forked lightening followed by a massive roar. Looking up the tourist began to scream as to their horror they saw a mass of torn and twisted metal raining down on them.
Seconds later the ground shook as the Blackhawk gunship slammed into the ground. The blades ripping up the desert rock as they shattered into fragments of razor sharp confetti.
Bob staggered to his feet and looked into the heart of the burning wreck. For a moment he thought he saw something move within the inferno. But then he’s attention was torn away by a new roar which resounded through the valley.
“CLOOOOOOVVVVVEEENNNN”
Above the wall of the valley a huge shape loomed above them, its dark mass casting a shadow over all below.
From the flaming hulk of metal came a new shout, one far more human. Turning Bob saw a figure walking out of the flames. A figure dressed in Red, White and Blue.
