After dropping Archimedes Thane off on Katar, Erin went back to her ship and emptied her satchel of all the things she had picked up on Shu. She found a cylindrical metal tube, two pink colored glass discs that seemed to emit energy, and several small parts as well as the two holographic projectors. Sitting at a table in the cargo hold she activated one of the projectors and propped her feet up as she listened.
The man in dark robes started from the beginning of his tale “the Druidic Knights began on the planet of Samus Prime when a farmer called Johun found his body was filled with magical energy after bathing in the Seraphim Falls” here the man began pacing up and down a long chamber before continuing.
“From this the druids grew as more and more people flocked to the Falls in an effort to bath in its mystical waters. Johun decided that the group should learn to control their magic potential. This is what started them on the path to becoming scholars and philosophers.”
Here the holographic projector switched to an image of two men “several hundred years’ later two brothers rose among the druids, Veda who thrived on knowledge and Atrox who hungered for power. The two had a falling out when Atrox created a weapon that utilized magic as an energy source and decapitated his brother.”
The holograph changed to show a metal cylinder not unlike the one Erin now held in her hand. Then as the thumb plate on its hilt was activated a blade of pure energy hissed as it extended outward to a length of about three feet. Then it vanished as the plate was released.
“The Arc Blade became the weapon of choice for the druids on both sides of the conflict that was to follow. The ones who continued on the ways of righteousness chose to call themselves the Veda Sect in honor of their fallen comrade while the others became known as the Atrox Clan.”
Erin took a moment to pause the image while she looked down at the metal tube and the glass discs “these are the parts to an Arc Blade?”
The holographic projector continued after a moment without Erin having to reactivate it, the man in the robes continued his tale as if in response to her discovery “next we will cover the basic construction of the Arc Blade and how to properly power it. First you must find two Arcanum Crystals…” from here the man explained in grueling detail the exact construction of the blade by focusing ones inner magic to fuse the crystalline discs to the inner workings of the metal tube.
Erin did not believe in magic at all. Even though she had heard stories of the fabled Druidic Knights of ages past from her grandmother when she was still a little girl. But even if they had once existed, they no longer did so. But even so she focused her mind trying to delve into her inner soul looking for this magic.
She was surprised by what she discovered there. As if a dam had broken, the magic flowed out of her and into one of the pink glass discs. Then it rose into the air and spun around her head before welding itself to the end of the metal tube. The smaller parts that she had dumped from her satchel rose as well and began to assemble themselves together inside the tube before the second pink disc welded itself to the other end capping it off.
“Amazing” Erin Karr muttered to herself as she discovered that she shared the lineage of the Druidic Knights “how is this possible?”
As if on command the druid in the hologram answered her “after a few hundred years of magic flowing in their bloodstreams the druidic knights were able to pass it on hereditarily instead of having to make the pilgrimage to Samus Prime and the Seraphim Falls.”
“My ancestor was a druid” Erin told herself though she still had trouble believing it.
She clipped the Arc Blade’s hilt to her belt and stowed the holographic projectors in her personal footlocker. Then she went up to the cockpit and punched the coordinates to Samus Prime into the navigational computer.
“Might I ask where we are going?” Gryphon interrupted her train of thought as his eyes flickered to life.
“On holiday” she replied powering up the Razor Wynd’s engines. __________________
