This issue guest starring Bono Fett's Superion!!!
July 7, 1947 just outside Roswell, New Mexico…
As Mac Brazel drove along the old country road in his pickup truck he heard a loud explosion and looked up into the sky. He saw what looked like a metallic meteor shooting down towards the Earth. He pulled off to the side of the road and followed the meteor with his eyes as it crashed in a field on the Foster Homestead. Mac hopped back in his truck and drove across the field towards the crash site.
What he found was not a meteor rock but a flying machine of some kind. It had broken apart during the crash and there was debris scattered about but the cockpit was still mostly intact. Fearing that one of the test pilots from the Army base had just crashed his plane Mac rushed over to try and help the fellow out. What he discovered instead was an unconscious humanoid lizard man with large muscles and sharp pointed teeth.
Mac then loaded some of the smaller debris in the bed of his truck in order to add weight to his story and proceeded to drive to the sheriff’s office. Later that day he showed an Army Major and a man in plainclothes to the wreckage. They immediately called in a containment team and whisked the alien and his craft away to Roswell Army Airfield. The plainclothes man escorted Mac Brazel away from the site and ordered him to forget everything he saw.
Present Day Groom Lake, Nevada…
After the closure of the Roswell base in 1967 the creature and the spacecraft were moved to the top secret test base at Groom Lake. It is here that the creature finally reawakens from the crash induced coma that it has been in for more than sixty years.
As Grog ripped out the medical tubing that was inserted in various parts of his body he roared in fury. Alarms began blaring loudly forcing him to cover his ears. He found himself trapped in a large glass tank filled with strange green liquid. He began pounding on the glass with his large fists. At first it seemed futile but after several attempts the glass finally cracked beneath his strength. Then with the liquid rushing out into the chamber beyond he was free!
Security Forces flooded into the chamber with their assault rifles held at ready. One man panicked and opened fire before the order was given. The small caliber rounds bounced harmlessly off the creatures thick scales. It did nothing more than anger the lizard man.
Grog could not understand why the fleshlings were shooting at him? He had done nothing wrong. Sure his original intent was to recon the planet so that the Kronoan Armada could begin their invasion plans. But what was so bad about that? His logic made perfect sense to him as it would any Kronoan. Their whole purpose was to enslave other beings and utilize them to harvest much needed planetary resources.
But then his ship malfunctioned and that was the last thing he remembered. Maybe these humans had shot him down? His temper flared at the thought and he grabbed the closest thing he could find, a large metal table that held various medical instruments, and tossed it in the men’s direction.
The rest of the security team opened fire as they dodged the incoming table. But it was no use for the creature plowed through the back wall and into the room beyond. It was on the move and it was fast. Too fast for the soldiers, team leader O’Conner called the switch and told the officer at the desk to assemble the remaining ground forces to secure all the exits of the facility.
Grog tore through the building demolishing everything in his path. He entered a break room and found several lab techs sitting around chatting. They stopped mid sentence and stared at him open mouthed, too afraid to move. He picked up one of the vending machines with his massive tail and hurled it in their direction before continuing on through the wall on the other side of the room.
The warrior from Kronos only wanted to find his way out of this labyrinthine structure. But it seemed he was doomed to forever roam its halls until he heard a faint ding up ahead. What he found was an elevator though he had no idea what it was called. He thought the sliding doors would lead him out. So he crashed through them and found himself in the small lift.
Unable to work the contraption he tore through the roof and leapt up the shaft. His nearly impervious scales provided adequate protection as he smashed through the ceiling, finding himself on top of the building. At that moment he spotted something blazing through the sky. A red, white, and blue blur of fury.
The figure crashed into Grog and the two of them tumbled off the roof and into the pavement below. The lizard man grew even more enraged at this intrusion and his strength increased accordingly. He whipped the newcomer with his tail sending him flying backwards into the side of an M1 Abrams Tank that was just pulling onto the scene. The tank driver swore out loud as the tank flipped on its side. He crawled out of the hatch followed by the gunner and they both immediately took cover behind a nearby shed.
“You soldiers might want to stay undercover and let the professional deal with this” the red, white, and blue newcomer said to the soldiers.
“Wow you’re Superion” the gunner said in awe.
“Zip it private” the tank driver ordered “can’t you see he has no time for autographs. We are highly trained soldiers here Superion. We don’t hide from a fight, we’ll help you in anyway we can.”
“You can try sergeant” Superion replied as he turned his attention back to the alien creature “hold on there Godzilla lets take this fight away from the little folks.”
Grog did not understand the language this muscle bound human was speaking nor did he care to learn it. He roared, this time sending a small glob of acid flying from his mouth in the man’s direction. Superion easily dodged the spit and flew towards the lizard, hammering his fists into Grog’s face.
The two behemoths pounded on each other for several more minutes destroying vehicles and equipment as they each took turns knocking the other to the ground. Grog finally grew tired of the fight and turned looking for a way out. He saw a military helicopter hovering overhead and leapt toward it. His clawed hand ripped through the tail rotor causing the machine to fly out of control. Then he continued leaping off towards the horizon.
As much as Superion wanted to chase after the creature and say too hell with the copter pilot he knew deep down underneath his inflated ego that it was his duty to save lives first. As the helicopter hurtled toward the ground he reached up with his arms and caught it. Then he gently set it aside so the soldiers could disembark.
Arriving on scene seconds later, another figure flew into view wearing grayish-blue tights and crimson red bracers. According to the Intel he had just received from Shadow Hawk, something huge was attacking Groom Lake. As Captain Midnight drew closer he spotted a large man standing amidst the wreckage of a helicopter.
[What kind of steroid using punk still wears America’s colors as if he’s some kind a patriot? He’s probably some whack job terrorist who thinks he’s fighting for a better tomorrow.] Captain Midnight figures as he begins his descent.
“I order you to cease and desist immediately” Captain Midnight shouts with authority!
“I don’t have time for this “ Superion replies as he takes to the sky.
“You are not getting away that easy punk” Midnight replies as he mentally dials up the power from low to medium on his bracers.
The first two energy blasts miss but the third finds its mark and hits Superion right between the shoulder blades. The crimson energy temporarily stuns the patriotic hero and he begins falling. Shortly before he hits the ground however he regains control. Then with a blinding rage he hurls himself at his attacker.
The punch Superion delivers to Captain Midnight’s jaw sends him falling backwards…
Captain Midnight felt his jawbone crack and the pain was almost unbearable. This guy was a lot stronger than he was! He hated to admit it but it was true. Captain Cole Turner was no wimp by any means and his Army training had conditioned him to be even stronger but Mr. Red, White, and Blue pretty boy here had to be super strong! There was only one thing to do. He looked at his bracers and a mental picture of the inner workings of the bracers flashed in his mind. Amidst the wiring there was the dial controlling the power level. He went to turn the dial up higher. That’s when he first noticed that the bracers had a level he hadn’t seen before. A level that was above “High”, it was simply labeled M.S. He hadn’t tried that one yet but he thought if it was a stronger level than high then it should do the trick.
Captain Midnight mentally switched the dial to M.S. and he felt an influx of power. He immediately knew that this was no energy blast. The crimson energy surrounded him in a cocoon of power and his eyes flared a dark crimson. He swung his fist and heard several ribs breaking as he connected with the other man’s chest.
This blow had caught Superion by surprise. The pain wasn’t enough to cause him much discomfort though and he moved back into the fight delivering his own fast jab to the other man’s already broken jaw. But this time his punch did nothing. Captain Midnight just shrugged it off and even laughed manically.
“Oh hell, what have I gotten myself into?” Superion wonders as he starts backing away trying to ponder his next move.
Captain Midnight could not get over the massive surge of power that was flowing through him. If this was a drug he could easily become addicted to it. He thought about keeping the bracers set to M.S. permanently so that he could never be hurt by anything again. He threw a few more punches at Superion and then changed it up with a couple of kicks.
Even though they were almost evenly matched now in strength and invulnerability Superion was still faster. He used this to his advantage and dodged the punches easily but the first kick caught him by surprise and sent him reeling backwards. He caught Midnight’s foot on the next kick and slammed his elbow down into his kneecap. The move would have shattered anyone’s leg who didn’t have a high rate of invulnerability but all it did to Captain Midnight was cause him to lose his balance.
Captain Midnight tried to stand back up but at that moment his ears started ringing and his body crashed as if his “high” had worn off. He fell back down to one knee as his head began to spin. He felt as weak as a kitten and thought he was going to be sick.
“What the hell?” he grumbled to himself as he looked up at his enemy, trying to sound braver than he was he shouted “go ahead and finish me off if you’ve got the guts punk!”
“No time, besides what fun would it be now you’re already beaten” Superion replies as he launches himself into the sky heading in the same direction he had last seen Grog traveling.
Cole Turner could not understand what had happened. If only Myd Nie Tur had been able to fully explain how the bracers worked maybe he’d have been prepared for what had happened. He tried to use the crimson energy to take flight after the other man but the bracers refused to respond. It was as if they had no power left and if that were true then he had no way to stop the catastrophe. __________________
