In 1936 the United States founded the National Time-travel Foundation (NTF), predecessor to the American Time Travel Association (ATTA) that would be created many decades later. The government set up this top secret agency for one purpose, to send a person forward and backwards in time. Heading up this research was none other than Albert Einstein himself. The experiment was set up to use a ferromagnetic vessel made of lodestone to carry a "traveler" through time by repelling it with giant electromagnets. The Electromagnetic Conductors were built onto large floating derricks and set up in a triangle pattern out the Atlantic Ocean between Florida, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico.

Captain Cole Turner was chosen to pilot this vessel through time. The trial destination was the year 2055. However once the Electromagnets were activated the magnetic field ripped the vessel apart causing a massive explosion. Captain Turner was supposedly killed in the incident. However his body was never recovered and the government decided "he must have burnt up in the raging inferno".

Most of the debris sunk into the ocean along with the Electromagnetic Conductors causing the entire triangle shaped area to become permanently magnetized dragging ships and planes alike into the ocean currents to their destruction. This resulted in various reports of supernatural happenings in what would become known as the Bermuda Triangle. The government refused to dispute the rumors thinking it better for the public to think something supernatural was going on than to come clean about the ill fated time travel experiment.

The ferromagnetic vessel may have been destroyed in the experiment but Captain Cole Turner was not. His body had been surrounded in a magnetic field and propelled forward through time, though he did not reach his intended destination. He arrived 1100 years later in a barren wasteland.

Out in the distance he could see a large machine that seemed to hover as it moved across the sand. It reminded him of the German A7V tanks that he had seen near the end of the First World War.

He rubbed his eyes as he looked around. The heat was causing Cole Turner to see things or so he thought. A giant mass of flesh was crawling across the desert. It was covered in a bony exoskeleton and had a long tail that ended in a hammer headed shape.

Cole placed his hands above his eyes trying to shield them from the sun, but still the shape did not dissipate. It was real! He thought it looked a lot like those dinosaurs he had learned about when he was a kid in school.

Before he could get a closer look the large machine he had seen earlier approached him. A hatch on the roof opened and a man with an octopus for a head wearing desert fatigues shouted at him in some alien tongue. Cole didn’t understand the words but their meaning was easy enough to decipher considering the octopi held a weapon pointed at him.

He quickly threw up his hands in surrender, not sure what nightmarish world he had awoken in. But before he could be taken aboard the hovering tank several figures flew into view. They each wore dark uniforms with matching armbands.

“Halt in the name of the Midnighters. Turn your vehicle around and get out of here or we will be forced into conflict” a large lizard looking one shouted in perfect English and then again in the same alien tongue the octopi had used.

The octopi shouted something in reply and then closed the hatch on the tank. The large machine changed direction and steadily moved towards the horizon. Captain Cole Turner stared at these so called ‘Midnighters’ in shock wondering if this would turn out worse than if he had simply gone with the octopus man.

“Greetings human” the lizard creature spoke again “I am Midnight Berserker and we are the Midnight Avenger Corps. You have nothing to fear from us.”

“What year is this?” was the only thing Cole could think of to say.

“9,987,654,321,000,000,000 Galactic Timeframes have passed since the creation of the cosmos” the barbaric looking Midnight Berserker replied.

“Excuse me” Cole said in confusion “Galactic Timeframes?”

“My apologies human, in former Earthling years, it would have been 3155 A.D.”

Very interesting. I love time travel stories.

did you catch my nod to your ATTA? I figured this would help establish that our characters are in fact inhabiting the same universe

Yep. I like your Bermuda Triangle angle. I guess it could be said that it was created in the 30's but could exist at all times possibly? Thus making it cause trouble for Columbus and all those sailors of ancient times.

I hadn't thought of that. I mean there were reports from earlier but the first plane report was 1942 so that's why I chose a few years before that. Maybe the time anomaly caused the magnetic field to extend into the past as well?

The old explosions through time and space would be akin to firing a bullet through the pages of a history book.Leaving a hole right through the middle.

I like that concept. Wouldn't it be neat if the Bermuda Triangle was caused by a government experiment and created some time anomalies? I'm also fascinated about the city of Atlantis and all that.

I actually had some theories involving Atlantis and using it in the Wraithe stories but I haven't worked it all out yet.
