Okay so this is not the conclusion. I couldn't wait to post what I had written so far.
Anyway read on and enjoy...
“So how did you get roped into this” I asked the General?
Dr. Fuerst is the one who replied “he was mentioned in your files several times. Your last mission together has been classified at the highest levels. I can’t even access it. Usually that doesn’t happen unless the information would be too devastating to the war effort.”
“So she called me” Luther Vanguard put in “wanted to know if what happened might negatively impact her experimental procedures. I told her if anything it would make you an even better weapon.”
“Now I’m just a weapon” I said clearly frustrated “do you people not realize this is my life we’re talking about here? I don’t want to be just some science experiment.”
It wasn’t really the fact of being called a weapon that bothered me so much. But if you knew my history with the General it would be a little clearer. I was under the impression that we respected each other as people, especially after what we had been through in Afghanistan.
The mission was a simple one, search and rescue. General Vanguard led our platoon deep behind enemy lines. The insurgents were everywhere. They caught us by surprise with their secret weapon. I still can’t explain what it was that I saw there. It was like some sort of energy creature with wings that I can only compare to mythological dragons. Whatever it was ambushed us as we managed to outflank the enemy. Then it dropped on us shooting energy from its gaping maw.
Our platoon was vaporized in an instant, only me and the General surviving. We started to retreat but the insurgents caught him. I managed to get a way. I called for backup. It was denied. I was ordered by the Major on the other end of the radio to make for the extraction point. They’d send in a Blackhawk to retrieve me. I told him to go to hell! Then I went back in on my own.
Anyway after I managed to get the General out of there we were picked up by the Blackhawk and brought back to Fort Bragg for debriefing. After that we were told never to speak of what we saw again. I still have nightmares about what happened.
“I’m sorry Corey” Dr. Fuerst broke into my thoughts using my first name again “we didn’t mean to offend you. But I do need your help and in turn maybe I can change you back to the way you were?”
“You can do that Doc?”
“I’m been working on a reversal procedure in the hopes that it can help Agent Hawthorn.”
“What do we do now?” I asked.
“Let me see your rucksack” she said motioning for me to hand it over.
As she rummaged through it she told the general that we needed a chopper. Luther Vanguard pulled out a radio from somewhere and requested one immediately. Then Dr. Fuerst pulled a small device out of the pack and tossed it to me.
“What’s this?”
“An ESTP Device” she replied.
“Extra Sensory Perception” I said in confusion.
“Energy Signature Targeting Prototype, see there’s a T in there you missed” she corrected with a smile “it can track unique energy signatures such as yours and Agent Hawthorns when you are using your abilities.”
“But what if he’s not using his abilities?”
She motioned for me to turn it on and when I did I got an immediate confirmation of his location. Washington, D.C.
“Once your mental facilities start to fail your abilities become more permanent. His radar senses are constantly active and his body has lost its tangibility. The only way to shutdown his abilities is to surround him with a Containment Energy Field.” __________________
