Westlake hinted that in order to escape I had to be irrational. What the hell did that mean? Whatever happened to Blake causing him to slaughter those lab techs, I didn’t want it happening to me. But was I willing to stay a captive to prevent it? This lab tech was no threat to me, other than the occasional electric jolt he was sending through me. I wonder if I could get him to let me go.
Westlake finally left the room with a smug look on his face. Man I wish I was free I’d wipe it off his face. I needed to get free and I needed to arm up. I looked at the lab tech with the saddest puppy dog face I could muster. The guy laughed at me and hit the switch shocking me just for fun.
“What’s with the electro shock therapy?”
“It interferes with your radar sense and keeps your mind muddled” the tech responded.
Just then Dr. Fuerst strolled in; she looked as though she’d been through hell and back.
“What’s up doc” I asked mimicking Bugs Bunny “out hunting wabbits?”
“Very amusing Corey” she said using my first name “I’m glad you still have your sense of humor, it may just save your life.”
She dismissed the lab tech and then she flipped a blue switch I hadn’t noticed before. The constraints fell free from my wrists and legs. I was dumbfounded, this was completely unexpected. Before I could ask any questions she handed me a folded piece of paper. Then she walked out of the room.
I opened up the note and read: “I believe Westlake has crossed the line. I want you to retrieve Agent Hawthorn I think I can cure his mental illness. I know you’ve been in the room. But it houses more than just a filing cabinet. Go there and open the file labeled DEW. Follow it’s instructions to the letter. We will rendezvous six clicks south of here at the Paradise Ranch.
Now I really was confused. How did she know I had been in the room hidden behind door A-51? I hadn’t seen any cameras though that didn’t mean they weren’t there. So what else had I missed in the filing cabinet? This was my chance to find out.
Phasing through walls and floors I finally made my way into the room. Then I did just as before to open the cabinet. Flipping through the files I discovered quite a bit of information concerning everything from the Kennedy Assassination to the Moon Landing. I tried to mentally file away every bit of information I came across just in case. Then I found the DEW file, Directed Energy Weapons, the construction of which was authorized by President Reagan. The file contained blueprints for the Containment Energy Net used to capture me plus various other energy based weapons.
Scribbled on the side of the folder I found a small notation. I looked around the room until I found a small indention in the wall near the left corner. I pushed it in with my finger. The rear wall slid away revealing an armory. Almost the entire arsenal was energy based. I grabbed a large rifle and slung it over my shoulder then I grabbed a utility belt housing various canister grenades. Lastly I snatched a rucksack from underneath a table and loaded it down with as many of the smaller devices as I could.
Later at Paradise Ranch I met up with Dr. Angela Fuerst, she was accompanied by a rather large Army General whom I recognized as Luther Vanguard. We went way back. I saluted him out of habit even though neither one of us were in uniform. He returned it with a smile then extended his hand. I shook it and then Dr. Fuerst spoke.
“I see you followed my instructions.”
“Why are you helping me?”
“Because the government is manipulating my research, I knew we weren’t ready for human testing but they insisted. If I had only been more adamant none of this would have happened.”
“Glad to see you’re all right sergeant” the General commented “the good doctor thought you might need some help.” __________________
