“Sir, I really want to know what you are planning on doing for Blake” I shouted at the CIA director in front of his entire staff.
“Calm down sergeant, calm down. Dr. Fuerst and her team are doing everything humanly possible to correct the problem.”
“You and I both know that is BS! He’s going to end up like Edgar isn’t he?”
“Watch yourself sergeant” Director Westlake retorted “don’t go putting your nose where it doesn’t belong.”
“Where are they keeping him?” I demanded.
“Subbasement 13, the same place where the process began it will end.”
“What do you mean end?”
“I mean Agent Blake Hawthorn is being decommissioned as we speak.”
“So when this experiment goes wrong you just kill the test subject? Is that what’ll you do to me?”
“If you show any signs of mental instability we will have no other choice.”
With that I did an about face and stormed out of his office. I was angry, but not just with him. I was angry at everyone attached to this operation. I got into the elevator on the south wall and pressed the button for subbasement 13. The elevator’s gears whined as they started lowering the stainless steal box as if it was a coffin being lowered into a deep grave.
It took five whole minutes before the elevator finally stopped and the bell dinged letting me know the doors were about to open. As the doors slid to the sides, the sight that awaited me was completely unexpected. There was blood everywhere in the hallway along with various body parts. The random finger or ankle just lay there as if they had been discarded by an animal that finished off the rest of the carcass.
Immediately I focused allowing my radar sense to activate. The entire floor was devoid of threats, I relaxed a little bit. Whatever did this was gone. I slammed the palm of my hand into the alarm switch on the wall and a siren began wailing. Reinforcements should be down here soon.
But until they get here, I’m going to do some snooping of my own. I turned the corner at the end of the hallway only to find more blood and this time a dead body. One of the lab techs had been ripped to shreds. Could Blake have done this? I wasn’t sure but even if he did, I couldn’t put all the blame on him. I mean they were going to kill him so it could have been self defense, albeit excessive force was utilized when it wasn’t necessary to do so.
I continued my progression down the corridor, looking into every office, and every storage closet on the way toward the laboratory. But there was no sign of Blake or Dr. Fuerst. Maybe she at least was still alive? But my stomach churned from the stench of death that permeated everything on this floor.
Dr. Angela Fuerst was in the lab on the floor. She was unconscious but alive. It looked as if she had simply been struck in the head, probably as Blake broke free of his restraints. The footsteps in the hallway made it to my ears before I ever heard the voices. A CIA containment team swarmed through the corridors, orders was shouted out by the commander to shoot first.
I reactivated my radar sense and every one of the team members glowed red. These guys weren’t going to wait for me to explain myself. They were just going to assume I had something to do with this. I had to get out of here and quick.
