The plot of the movie is based on George Perez' reboot of the character, specifically the "Gods and Mortals" arc that started the character's second volume back in 1987. It is the fourth in the line of DC Universe Original Animated Movies released by Warner Premiere and Warner Bros. Animation. The previous releases were Superman: Doomsday, Justice League: The New Frontier, and Batman: Gotham Knight.

Plot

On the mystical island of Themyscira, a proud and fierce warrior race of Amazons have raised a daughter of untold beauty, grace and strength: Princess Diana. When an Army fighter pilot, Steve Trevor, crash-lands on the island, the rebellious and headstrong Diana defies Amazonian law by accompanying Trevor back to civilization. Meanwhile, Ares (the god of War) has escaped his imprisonment at the hands of the Amazons and has decided to exact his revenge using the mystical “Hand of Rage,” an ancient artifact with the power to raise armies from the dead and infuse them with a thirst for blood. Ares intends to start a world war that will not only last for centuries – but will wipe out every living being on the planet, starting with the Amazons. It is up to Princess Diana to save her people and the world – by using her gifts and becoming the ultimate Wonder Woman.

Everyone? The new DC animated movie Wonder Woman is simply amazing and so well done, I give it a 10/10.  And I'm a rather tough grader.  It has humor, a well written, not to long, not to short story with a well thought out original plot.  A surprise guest at the end, and extraordinary animation.

I definitely recommend this even to those who aren't fans seeing that it goes into just the right amount of detail of the origin without it being boring.

I have seen the last 3 DC universe movies, and I dont like any of them. The animation to me is horrible, for starters, after being spoiled on BTAS, STAS, and JL.

S/D was bitterly disappointing, I mean Doomsday was gone after 20 min, why even have him in the title?

Gotham Knight I really cant stand because of the japanses style animation.

And I wasnt too crazy about the style in JLF either.

However, Bruce Timm and company more than made up for it with WW. Animation was flawless, perfect, non japanese. Storyline was good, and they did stay pretty much to the WW origin, though they did make a few changes to how the amazons really got to be on the island, I can live with that though.

The 21st century version is very modern and up to date, including a few more adult themed lines, not  to give anything away, but it is PG13 for a good reason.

The only two complaints I really have though is it was too short, wish it could have been closer to two hours, and of course, Im still quite prejudiced when it comes to WW, I still see Lynda Carter as the real WW, having grown up with her, its impossible for me to see someone else in the role. No matter who the voice is, I still see Lynda.

Interesting ending, too. Not going to say what exactly, but I am sure hoping that it was a hint to a sequel.

Oh by the way, anyone interested, the day after the release, I already created and posted a WW movie tribute using the original tv series theme. Can view it here:
