Horton Hears a Who !" director Jimmy Hayward will make his live-action debut with "Jonah Hex," a western based on the DC Comics character .

Josh Brolin ("Milk") is attached to star in the film, which Warner Bros . hopes to put into production in March or April.

Supernatural elements were was featured in the script by original directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor ("Crank"), who left the project over creative differences in November. The studio will likely keep their script, though it's expected that Hayward will put his stamp on it.

Hayward began his career as an animator on the Canadian TV series "ReBoot" before becoming a member of the Pixar family, where he worked on such films as " Toy Story ," " A Bug's Life ," " Toy Story 2 ," "Monsters, Inc." and " Finding Nemo ." He made his directorial debut with 2008's "Horton," which grossed $154.5 million at the domestic box office .

Strange going from something that sounds like too much blood and guts to a family cartoon. I'm hopeful though that this new guy is just branching out and won't turn Hex into a singing elephant or something. Why doesn't anyone get Clint Eastwood's input? This movie needs a Clint Eastwood attitude and a fast paced comic book superhero pace.

Hex is the only comic character I know of to be prominently featured in the old west and an apocalyptic future.

Cool, if only Clint Eastwood was a bit younger he could play Hex!
