tim. how did you go about getting this site?  i know domain's cost somehting yearly.  i have to build a site for a class, and was wondering how you got the advertisements.  i'm not looking to make money, just to cover the costs of maintaining a site, or rather paying for the domain i choose.

I get most of my domains through godaddy.com. It's pretty cheap like 10 bucks a year. I use Bluehost as my web host which is like 6.95 a month.

As far as ads you can use google ads or yahoo ads. I like Amazon's affiliate program the best. There's a link at the bottom of Amazon's front page you can read up on at.

Lately though I'd say unless you are going to go into making web pages long term it's not worth the hassle. It takes a lot of web pages to get enough traffic to start making money to even support a website.

And then if you want to use a script which everybody does you got database headaches and CPU usage issues that the webhost will shut you down for.

Don't get me wrong I'm glad I got into it, but I think if I hadn't gotten into it years ago I wouldn't be able to now.

Just for a school project I'd find the cheapest webhost and go with that. As long as you don't have to guarantee the site is always up.

No it's not horrible. I just made a mistake of getting a lot of relatives into making web pages and none of them ever really made much, and they ended up deserting their sites.

If you can do it for fun and enjoyment and make money then you can probably get somewhere eventually, but you  be warned though like I said before technical issues can cause you some major stress every now and again.

About 20 bucks a month?

You can do it cheaper than that about 10 bucks a month or less.
