From Sci Fi Wire:

Quote:
Get Smart director Peter Segal will helm a film version of DC Comics' Captain Marvel, part of a three-year deal among Warner Brothers, Segal and his Callahan Filmworks partner Michael Ewing, Variety reported.

Warner acquired the John August-scripted Captain Marvel. Segal and Ewing began working on the film two years ago at New Line, but the property has moved over to Warner.

The movie tells the story of teenage Billy Batson, who transforms into the superhero when he says the word "Shazam!"

The deal comes as Segal prepares to direct a sequel to Get Smart for Warner and Village Roadshow Pictures.

I hope they get to work on this picture.

Yeah maybe it'll be DC's next picture.

I grew up with Shazam! Loved that show as a kid.

I met Jackson Bostwick aka Captain Marvel at a comic con. Talked to him. He was a nice guy. It was like talking to the Lone Ranger.

Huh. Cool. I'm not an expert on Shazam but I was just wondering...sorry if I steer off-topic for a bit...how can Marvel and DC both have a character of the same name?

Well I think I read Marvel eventually created their character after DC had not published any Captain Marvel adventures for a number of years. In a lot of spellings it's now like Mar-vell or something to that effect.

You know I also think DC is more up to go after a small publisher than a big one.

Plus the characters are a lot different from each other.

Yeah but they both wear red costumes and fly.

I bet if we made a Captain Marvel character and published him we'd have both Marvel and DC on our butts. I think the biggest weapon of suing is just the court costs.
