For months Shadow Hawk has searched the city of Saint Katherine’s Bay trying to find a lead on his father’s killer, while as John Dark he has been training his little sister Jess and his girlfriend Alicia in the art of ninjitzu.

Jess has finally learned enough to go out on patrol for the first time. But he is still worried about her lack of experience.

Jessica pulls on the brown and gold suit that closely resembles the black and gray of her older brother’s.

“So sis how’s the suit?”

“Fits a little tight and why don’t I get a cape?”

“The cape would slow you down too much; you’ll be faster without the extra weight.”

“Then why do you have one?”

“I’m not as tiny as you are so I can carry the added weight better. Anyway enough questions for now, if you want to go we need to leave.”

The two siblings went out into the night firing their grapplers towards a tall building from which they can better survey the area. Once on the roof they kneel down on a small ledge where they can see much of the city’s skyline. Jess is amazed and overwhelmed by the scope of the city.

“From up here the city looks huge” she comments “I never realized there would be so much ground to cover.”

“Yeah it’s pretty overwhelming” John smiles reassuringly “there’s so much crime in this city it’s hard to find a criminal that has any connection to dad’s murder.”

“I’m beginning to think it’s hopeless” Jess replied “I mean you’ve been at this for months and before that the cops had a year to investigate. How can anyone not leave a trail of some kind?”

Just then sirens could be heard in the distance John and Jess both switched to telescopic vision modes and zoomed in on the sound. Two patrol cars were racing down the street toward the First National Bank.

“This is it Jess stay close to me and don’t take any unnecessary risks” John ordered as he fired his grappler and swung off into the night.

Jess followed suit managing to keep up with him though he’d been doing this longer. After firing their grapplers several times at different buildings they finally reached the scene of the commotion. The Police were surrounding the bank’s entrance and shouting through a megaphone that the one inside should come out with their hands up!

Perched across the street John switched to thermal vision and saw that only one person was inside the bank “this guys alone but armed, we need to be careful.”

“We have him outnumbered, let’s just get in there” Jess says anxiously.

“Patience” he replies as he fires a shuriken from his gauntlet.

The razor edged bird shaped throwing device broke through a window on the top floor well away from the action on the street “here’s our way in” John whispered as he dove off the roof firing his grappler.

Jess follows and the two make their way inside the upper floor. John motions for them to switch to night vision and then points at the stairwell. Jess pulls her ninjato snake sword from its sheath as she makes her way down the stairs alert for any possible ambush. As they enter the bottom floor John activates his wrist blades preparing himself for the attack.

The masked burglar has an assault rifle slung over his shoulder as he empties the teller drawers into a small bag. Every time the police shout through the megaphone he puts down the bag and fires off a round with his rifle then goes back to what he’s doing.
“Talon, relieve him of his weapon while I distract him” Shadow Hawk whispers over the communicator they each have built into their masks.

Then as if he appeared out of the darkness itself Shadow Hawk placed himself in front of the burglar “that money doesn’t belong to you” he says in a low voice.

Shocked the burglar turns to face him, reaching for his rifle he’s surprised again as a chain linked whip wraps around it and yanks it from his hands. He panics and tosses the money bag in Shadow Hawk’s face and runs toward the elevator. Here he’s met by Talon who blocks his way.

“Who are you people?”

“You’re worst nightmare” Shadow Hawk answers coming up behind the man.

Pulling a long knife the burglar slashes toward Talon; she sidesteps and blocks the small blade with her sword. The man kicks her in the stomach sending her reeling back into a table. Shadow Hawk then strikes the man between the shoulder blades with his armored fist sending him sprawling on the floor.

“No one hits my sister” he snarls “what do you know about the murder of police chief Dark?”

“What are you talking about man? I just need money; I’ve never killed anyone I swear. It has to be the mob their hands are into everything in this city. Please just let me go!”

“Even if you’re telling the truth you just broke the law” Shadow Hawk replies then looks over at Talon “go ahead and tie him up so he doesn’t escape then meet me on the roof. We need to fly before the police decide to come in guns blazing.”

The two vigilantes leave the scene just as the cops break in the door. They are stunned to see the burglar tied up as if he’d been gift wrapped just for them.

Elsewhere in the city…

“It seems as if everyone blames the mob for everything” John grumbles in frustration “but no one ever knows where to find them. How do they operate?

“So what do we do now?” Jess asks in return “how do you suggest we find them?”

“We keep looking” John answers swinging off into the night “I want you to check the harbor. I’m going to nightclub row.”

Jessica Dark does as she’s told and heads toward the docks on the eastside. Once there all she seems to find is deserted warehouses and boathouses. For the life of her she can’t understand why her big brother sent her down here. Then it dawns on her. He knew the place was deserted and wanted to keep her out of trouble!

Just as she was about to leave the harbor a dark shadow loomed over head. Talon used her night vision to try and make out the shape but was quickly knocked off her feet by a miniature earthquake.

Meanwhile Shadow Hawk arrives at the first nightclub on his route. A dark place filled with criminals known as the Underground Café. He decides to bust down the door in order to catch everyone off guard. With a powerful kick the door comes off its rusty hinges and splinters into pieces.

Several thugs draw their firearms at the sight of the door flying across the room. Shadow Hawk steps in; blades extended giving off a dark presence. One of the men fires their pistol and John quickly somersaults out of the way firing a shuriken as he did so. The razor edged bird struck the man’s hand causing him to drop the gun.

“Settle down there big guy. I don’t want to hurt you. I only want answers. The quicker you guys tell me where I can find the mob boss or better yet where I can find the cop killer who murdered Chief Dark I’ll be on my way.”

“So what’s with the get up? You some kind of vigilante? Who you supposed to be the Sparrow?”

“No man he’s the tweety bird like from looney toons. And I’m the bad puddy cat” another says drawing a short sword.”

Shadow Hawk leapt over a table and swung his wrist blade at the man knocking the sword away “don’t you watch television? The cat always loses!”

With that he stabbed the man with the blade and watched as his lifeless body slid to the floor. The other men all lowered their weapons and started looking for the closest exits. A couple just put up their hands admitting defeat.

One spoke up “okay, okay. Now I don’t know for sure but I heard Franklin Harrier, he’s the mob boss you’re looking for by the way, I heard that he hired some outside muscle to kill the cop.”

“Who was hired? I want a name! And a location” Shadow Hawk yelled!

“I don’t know his name. They say he moves like a ghost. He wears a red mask and blue suit.”

“Where can I find this ghost?”

    “Sun City, that’s his turf.”

As he left John activates his communicator “Talon do you read me? I have a lead. Talon, are you there?”

A feeling of dread sweeps over him at the thought that something might’ve happened to his baby sister. John opens up another channel and calls the only one who can help “Alicia do you copy?”

“What’s wrong John? You sound upset.”

“Do you remember when you said all I had to do is say the word?”

    “I remember.”

“Its time, Jess is in trouble I can’t reach her on the communicator. She’s down at the harbor and I don’t have time to look for her. I have to leave town.”

“Why what’s happened?” Alicia asks wondering what could be more important to him than the safety of his sister.

“I have a lead. This time it’s a good one. I’m headed to Sun City. Once I find the SOB I’m going rip his head off!”

Alicia thinks back to John’s return from overseas. He was determined to find his father’s killer without any help. Jessica refused to let him go it alone and practically forced him to train her. Alicia decided to help out as well and became Jessica’s sparring partner. The two of them grasped the ninja training pretty fast. Though neither one of them has mastered it yet they are both fairly competent warriors.

As she pulls on her own gray and black suit she turns her thoughts to finding Jess. Strapping on her belt and cape she radios her brother Mike and asks him to monitor the police bands for any news. Then she fires her own grappler out into the darkness and swings off towards the harbor. Arriving at the docks she switches to thermal vision looking for any signs of life.

Most of the warehouses are empty with the exception of a few night guards strolling about. But then she spots one flourishing with activity. Several people are inside standing around while one is sitting in a chair with hands behind their back. A knot forms in Alicia’s stomach as she realizes that the one tied up is Jess.

Switching to night vision to compensate for the darkness she finds a window and peers inside. What she sees amazes her. A man covered in stone is guarding the entrance to the warehouse while a woman made of fire and one covered in ice are standing around Talon. Another man, crackling with electricity is off to the side conversing with a woman glowing with energy.

Making her decision fast Alicia crashes through the window diving behind a row of crates. Activating the control panel on her belt she forms a jagged edged sword out of pure energy and confronts Talon’s capturers.

“Let her go!”

“Oh lookie here another birdie” the one of fire laughs and then hurls a ball of fire in her direction.

Alicia dodges to the left and then converts the energy into the shape of a boomerang tossing it toward the fire woman. The energy boomerang strikes her in the arm and then returns to Alicia’s hand reverting back to the sword form.

“No one strikes Firefox and lives” the fiery woman screams in pain as she takes flight unleashing a steady stream of fire in Alicia’s direction.
The electrical man joins in the fray hurling thunderbolts in her direction. Alicia swings her cape in front of her to shield her from the fire. The material is made to be resistant to heat and cold but she’s unsure how it’ll hold up to the electricity coming her way as well. Not wanting to find out she darts behind a nearby crate firing her grappler at the ceiling.

She swings toward Talon planning on grabbing her as she swings by in order to make a quick exit. However her plan is foiled when the woman covered in ice lets fly several icicle shards. Several of them penetrate Alicia’s suit causing her to lose control of her swing and slam into a support beam. However before the others can converge on her location she throws out an energized boomerang once more.
This one is carefully aimed at the ropes holding Talon to the chair. As it strikes one of the strands the rope severs and comes loose.

Jess quickly gets free and delivers a right hook to the ice woman’s cheek.  The layer of ice acts as armor and protects her body while causing Talon some immense pain. The woman reaches out and grabs Talon’s armor. Ice starts to work its way up her armor toward her torso.

“No one escapes Glacier” the ice one warns as her freezing touch begins to take hold.

The electric guy and Firefox both have Alicia cornered as the energized woman makes her way over as well. She tries to fight them off but finds herself in a tight spot.

“Who are you guys?” she asks seriously “what the hell do you want?”

“We are the Kinetics” the energized one answers punching her in the stomach with an energized fist.
Her suit absorbs part of the impact but the blow still sends her backward into a wooden crate. Catching a quick breather she activates her energy sword once more. Then she charges toward the energized woman swinging with deadly accuracy. The sword hits her square in the shoulder but the energized one just absorbs its power.

“That doesn’t work on me” she snarls charging up her fist for another energy punch.

Talon breaks free of Glacier’s grasp and strikes her with a kick to the back of the leg shattering its icy protection. Then she retrieves her ninjato snake sword and rushes over to help her friend. The two women stand back to back swinging their swords in a defensive arc keeping the others at bay for the moment.

“What now Raptor” Jess asks using the codename they had come up with last month.

“We stall” she answers.

Just then sirens blare as patrol cars coming screeching to a halt outside of the warehouse. Mike had placed an anonymous call shortly after his sister arrived at the harbor to ensure she had backup. The sound was a relief to the two women as it sent the others scrambling.

“Voltage you and Firefox report back to the boss while Quake, Glacier and I secure the package. We’ll meet back up at the rendezvous point.”

“Sure thing Bombshell” Voltage answered “Firefox we’re out of here” he shouted teleporting from the scene!
