                                                                                       Chapter 1

Cole Turner had always been one of the good guys. As a boy growing up he knew he wanted to be a cop like a lot of little kids, but his choice was motivated by his dislike for stand injustice. He always

stood up for smaller kids when they got picked on by bullies. He once heard his uncle, a tough old Vietnam veteran, saying once  ‘The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do
nothing’ he was too young to know who the Britsh philosopher Edmund Burke was but the statement rang true.

Cole's curiosity was the only thing that got him in trouble as a boy. You see; he loved taking things apart;  figuring out how they worked. There was a small pile of toys and gadgets in the family garage
that had fallen victim to Coles' tinkering. Mom was not too happy when her new "Walkman" had become part of Coles' collection.

The years passed and Cole forgot about being a cop, he went to college pursuing an engineering degree. He graduated at the top of his class in the summer of 2001.  With his college goal completed,
Cole took the summer off, a little relaxing and swimming down in Florida was what he needed. He returned home to his folks and found tons of letters requesting job interviews and so many offers he did
not know which to choose, life was good.

All that vanished on the morning of September 11, 2001.

He watched along with the rest of the world as his country came under attack, he comforted family members and friends even as he needed comforting. His uncle's words resonated in his mind all that
day  ‘The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing’ and by nightfall he had made up his mind, he would stand up against the bully, countless lives had to be attoned for.
The next morning he had signed the neccesary papers and heard his voice ring out loud and clear,

"I, Cole Turner, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and

that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.".

Within days he found himself at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas; ready to start his training. After basic training, he volunteered for Pararescue Training, the Air Force's toughest unit.
By the time he was done he had become a Staff Sergeant and finished at the top of that class as well. Because of his Enineering degree and his newly aquired skills he found himself assigned to the G.A.R.D. Agency.
The Global Astronautical Research & Development Agency engaged in designing new craft for spaceflight and Cole fit the Agency like a glove.

In late summer of 2002, he was assigned as an escort to a Colonel who had at top priority mission in Texas (the details were classified and on a need to know basis only).   Cole packed his gear and
boarded the C-130 Hercules. He was a little surprised to discover it was a sort of flying Command Center packed with computer terminals, tracking and global positioning hardware and a couple of
devices he couldn't even hazard a guess as to what they might be.

He found a seat and strapped in as the plane took off. After about an hour in the air, a Lieutenant, asked Sargeant Turner to follow him, and he was led to an office. A Colonel  inside greeted him with a
firm handshake foregoing the salute. "Lets start that by dropping the formalities while we are on board son",  "may as well if I'm going to trust you to watch my back, just call me Bill",  please sit down.

As soon as Cole was comfortably seated the Colonel lit a cigar and said,  "son I'm going to trust you with the details of our mission so you have a better understanding of the situation. "You are of
course familiar with the incident at Roswell and all the fuss that has been raised about it, right?" he asked.

Yes sir I .. I mean .. er yes Bill, I am quite familiar.

"well son, we did find something out there but it's not what everyone thinks, The pieces that Brassel found, were just pieces of the outer skin, the real find was about the size of a 55 gallon drum, maybe a
little smaller, and we didn't find that until a few years later."
Cole listened intently...

"at the time the location was 'hot', too much public attention, so we decided to bury our find right where we found it and wait until a more prudent time to retrieve it."

"as time went by people got transferred and moved around and there was a lot of paperwork that had to be reclassified as Top Secret and so many files that over time the find was lost in the shuffle of
paper and people."

The Colonel continued "well that is until two weeks ago, when a group of UFO researchers started asking questions about a small tract of land that was still classified as Top Secret by the our government".

"You mean the researchers found it?" Cole asked.

"No, they couldn't get into the land to find out what is there. What they found is some paperwork reffering to the site and are working feverishly to get more information or access."
"They are making a lot of requests through the FOI office and gathering a lot of information, and we need to maintain the status of the find."

"That is our mission son, to retrieve the container before a....

The  plane lurched to one side so violently that neither man was able to keep his footing. Sergeant Turner was flung from his chair and accross the Colonels' desk. Reacting quickly Cole looked around
and assessed the situation. He checked the Colonel who was alive, but unconscious, he climbed over a computer and small desk that blocked the door and headed towards the rear deck of the plane
amidst the blaring alarms. when he reached the back of the plane he saw a civilian talking to the Lieuteanant that had led him to Bill's office. as he aproched he caught a piece of the conversation.

Civilian: "We cannot land this crippled plane here, too many questions will be raised."
Lieutenat: "What do you propose we do?"
Civilian: "the site is fast aproaching, send the sergeant, have him dig it out and hide it in the nearby caves, we will send a helicopter to get him later".

Cole interrupted; Sir!, I'm sorry to interrupt but Bill .. I mean the Colonel is hurt he needs medical attention!"
"Don't worry about him Sergeant, he'll be okay I can see staff headed there now. Plans have changed, of course I'm sure Bill told you what we were going to do...."
Sergeant Turner cut him off...I overheard just get me the coordinates and  I'll handle it Sir!"

The plane rocked again, her body shaking and quivering as the pilots strained to gain control. In no time he was briefed, geared up and ready to go, a map in his pocket and all the neccesary gear in his
pack he aproached the door and jumped out of the plane.

Seconds later as his canopy opened he could see the C-130 bank violently then explode!

Pretty good start the only issue I have with it is that the Colonel was smoking on the plane. I used to handle aircraft fuel and I can tell you if he was smoking that plane might've went up before Cole jumped out.

Of course since this plane had a lot of high tech equipment in it it probably has some device that prevents that seeing as how its just a story

Just got on and This my first post here.
I know that smoking would be very hazardous in a plane so that was just a little artistic liberty. My way of depicting the Col like the old Sgt. Fury . kinda tough old coot.
