“The cops keep shooting at me” John says in frustration “I need to get them off my back if I’m going to make a real difference here.”
“The stakes have just gotten higher” Milena replies “I just can’t let you go at it alone anymore. You’re going to get yourself killed without someone watching your back.”
“But I need someone to relay information to me while I’m out in the field” John answers angrily.
“What if I do it” Mike Martin says entering the kitchen.
“You” John snarls and grabs him by the throat slamming him into the kitchen wall “how long were you going to play along before selling me out to your boss?”
“Let him go John. That’s my brother you know!”
“Yeah well he’s working for the enemy. His boss Frank Hampton is actually Franklin Harrier the guy that has the whole police force in his pocket.”
“What are you talking about; Mr. Hampton is not a mob boss” Mike chokes “please let me go.”
“That’s not the word on the street” John says letting him go.
“Well either way it doesn’t matter anymore” Mike says rubbing his neck “everyone that worked for Cyber-tech has been fired. The company just doesn’t make enough money to rebuild.”
“I think you owe Mike an apology John” Milena demands “now if you’d let me finish. Mike has offered to be our eye in the sky. That way I can be out there with you. And he’s brought along some new gadgets.”
With that Mike waves them into the living room where he’s laid out some new equipment. First he uncovers a couple of masks, one black, and one brown.
“These new masks have the communicators built in and are voice activated, so no more having to punch a code in your PDA buckle. The lenses in your mask have also been upgraded. Not only do they switch between thermal, night, and normal vision modes but now also have a telescopic zoom so that you can see further distances.”
“What’s with the different colors?”
“One for you and one for my sister.”
Then Mike brings out a new belt, brown uniform, and ninjato sword “these are specifically made for my sister. This PDA buckle activates the anti-gravity generators in the belt allowing her to fly. And the sword” he grins “works like a normal sword however with the push of a button it becomes segmented.”
He whirls the sword around as its blade breaks up into jagged edged chain links allowing it to be used like a whip.
“And this uniform should keep you well hidden until you are ready to be seen sis” Mike says pushing another button on the PDA causing the suit to vanish from sight “it bends and refracts light causing you to become invisible.”
John looks at the new gear and turns back to his love “well I guess I have a new partner. So any ideas on how to tackle a bunch of super freaks and high tech enforcers?”
Milena thinks for a moment and says “first I think we need to find a new base of operations, someplace big enough for all the equipment my brother’s going to need. Then we should get some decent transportation. I just don’t see the need for you to be swinging all over the city and me flying around where we can be spotted quickly.”
“I can help with both of those” Mike said “there’s a tower just outside of town that’s been abandoned for some time. It was one of Cyber-tech’s holdings but since the company just went bankrupt I was able to purchase it for next to nothing. I’ve already had some of my equipment moved there.”
Then he tosses each of them a set of keys “these were just delivered about twenty minutes ago.”
Outside parked at the back of John Dark’s house were two Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 sport bikes clearly outfitted with a minor arsenal, one silver and one gold “these bikes have 100 extra horsepower than their civilian counterparts as well as a built in submachine gun and rocket powered grenade launcher.”
“How did you…” John trailed off?
“It will please you to know that I swiped the parts from my former employer so you can take joy in the fact that your weaponry will help bring him down. Just be careful with my babies, don’t go wrecking them the first time out. There’s a built in GPS as well, just press the green button and the bikes will home in on the tower.”
With that Mike got in his two door coupe and peeled out of the driveway. John went back inside to gather his weaponry and don his uniform. While he was getting dressed Milena came back inside and stripped down and grabbed her new suit.
Letting out a whistle John paused for a moment “if only we had time to stop and have a little fun.”
Milena tosses him his uniform “get dressed John we have work to do. If you’re a good boy we’ll play later” she winks then pulls the mask over her head.
“This isn’t my uniform” John notices “what’s with the bird?”
“You said it yourself the cops won’t leave you alone. They know your look so you need a new one. My brother came up with these hawk designs” she said pointing to the one that now adorned her chest.
“So now I’m what? Birdman? Hawk Guy?”
“Surely you can come up with something better than that John” Milena says “just think of how you operate. This suit makes me invisible so I was thinking of calling myself Ghosthawk.”
“Well I usually try to stay in the shadows and confront my prey when they least expect it. So what should I call myself, Shadowhawk?”
After that conversation the two of them got on their sport bikes and headed out into the city searching for any signs of Harrier’s Enforcers or the new group known as the Kinetics.
