Using her scorpion pincher gauntlets to cut the glass of the skylight, Lindsay Colburn smiled triumphantly. The excitement washed over her as she peered down into the darkened jewelry store. The Saint Katherine’s Bay Diamond Broker boasted the largest diamond currently in the United States, a special stone with a mysterious green tint known as the Gecko Diamond. Lindsay had a sort of love affair with all things green which is why she currently wore a jade green leather jumpsuit and matching mask.
As the glass came free she lifted it out and placed it on the roof out of the way. Then she secured her repelling cable to a section of piping and attached the loose end to her belt with a D-clamp. Then she dove through the opening like an Olympic diver. The rope went snug just above the floor and she pulled out a small spray bottle from her messenger bag. Spraying the mist illuminated several red beams directly below her that were sure to set off alarms if they were broken.
She swung on the cable until it propelled her over to the edge of a desk near the back wall then she released the clamp and landed as gracefully as a gymnast. Lindsay spotted the diamond nearby on a podium surrounded by glass which was also inside a steel cage. She sprayed some more of her mist to find the safest path to the podium without tripping alarms.
After studying the cage for a few moments she pulled out what resembled a scorpion’s stinger from inside her bag. She held it like a gun and pulled a small trigger letting loose a concentrated stream of corrosive acid along the bars of the cage. They dissolved quickly and then she began studying the glass case.
“I’m sure it is attached to the alarm system and there’s no way to get in without setting it off” she thought making up her mind.
Taking the pincher gauntlet she smashed through the glass. The alarms blared to life as the thief snatched the diamond from the podium and placed it in her bag. Then she ran jumping for her rope. Climbing as fast as humanly possible she made it back to the roof in seconds.
She turned ready to jump to the next building and came face to face with a man dressed all in black with glowing green eyes. She kicked at his face but he dodged it then caught her leg with his left hand. He went to punch her with his right but she blocked it though pain shot through her arms from the impact with the metallic gauntlets he was wearing. He flipped her using her own leg as leverage.
Once free of his grasp she back flipped away and then turned to make a run for it.
“Not so fast, you have something that doesn’t belong to you” the Midnight Avenger says menacingly “hand it over!”
Reluctantly she tosses him her messenger bag and takes a leap to the next roof then disappears over the side. As John opens the bag he finds it empty save for a small container which immediately starts smoking. He tosses the bag up into the air as it detonates causing a very small blast which would have simply taken his arms off.
Without wasting any more time he chases after her determined to bring her in. He activates the PDA in his belt buckle and the GPS tracking system comes to life detecting the tracer he placed in her boot when he had had her leg.
The trail led him to the outskirts of the city to a little place known as the Crescent View Motel. The tracer was showing up inside room number 19 on the second floor. He stood outside the door a moment and activated his communicator.
“Milena I’m right outside the Motel. Go ahead and get the cops rolling over here. Make sure that rookie Sam is the first one here. I don’t trust the others.”
“Not a problem John” Milena answers “hey no funny business in that motel room mister.”
“Of course not” John said smiling “at least not without you.”
With that he kicked in the door sending splinters flying across the room. The thief’s boots were sitting by the full size bed and her jade leather suit was draped over the back of a chair. He heard the shower running and he turned the light switch off plunging the room into darkness. His lenses kicked in lighting up the room but the woman was nowhere to be seen.
Switching the lenses the thermal he picked up her body heat through the bathroom wall. She was moving fast already alerted to his presence. Her naked body came out of the bathroom her corrosive acid stinger in hand. She activated the trigger sending a stream in John’s direction. He dove beside the bed as the acid hit the wall dissolving a generic picture of a sailboat that was hanging there.
“How did you find me” Lindsay asked water dripping off her glistening body.
John rose up from behind the bed and was mesmerized for a moment staring at her well toned muscular body. The second cost him for she closed the distance and punched him in the chest knocking the wind from his lungs. He dropped to one knee hand clutching his chest as he tried to get his breathing back under control.
Sirens could be heard from the parking lot outside as the police finally arrived. Shock spread across her face as she grabbed her clothes and boots and frantically got dressed.
“I figured you for a loner” she said to him as she zipped up the front of her leather jumpsuit.
“John what are you doing the police are there get moving” Milena broke in on the headset.
“Yeah yeah” John whispered into his headset and then turned the conversation back to the jewel thief “I do most of my fieldwork alone but it’s always good to have an ace up your sleeve. So why don’t you just hand over the diamond?”
“How about you join me and we split the profit” she said seductively “I would love to partner myself up with an intelligent strong man such as yourself.”
The Midnight Avenger leapt on her pinning her to the floor “sorry lady I’m already spoken for” with that he handcuffs her to the bedpost and runs out the door firing his grappler at the roof.
Officer Sam Wilkins makes it to the room first and watches as the vigilante’s cable retracts into the gauntlet pulling him to the roof in an instant. He risks a peek inside finding a hot leather clad woman handcuffed to the bed. A look of puzzlement crosses his face and then a thought crosses his mind and he grins to himself.
He starts to search the room but he doesn’t find the Gecko Diamond anywhere “alright lady where’s the diamond?”
“Maybe the other man took it” she replies poutily?
Sam chews on that for a moment. How much does he really know about this Midnight Avenger anyway? He knows that the man wants to clean up the streets but maybe he’s using that as a cover in order to get rid of the competition? Either way right now he has to secure the scene and find out what happened to that diamond.
