“Rebirth”
Part 1
A few months after the death of her husband Hercules, Lindsay Cole quit her job as a DA and took an internship with a group of scientists heading into the Arctic Circle. The expedition was in response to a molecular disturbance that was picked up by NASA satellites.
What they found upon arrival shocked them. A mysterious alien artifact that at most resembled a tri-corder from Star Trek: The Next Generation was physically altering the molecular structure of everything within a 10 meter radius. The scientists cautiously ran tests from a safe distance using several sophisticated pieces of equipment.
Something about the alien device drew Lindsay’s interest and against the pleas of the scientists she strode closer and picked up the artifact. Her body then bonded itself with the polar ice taking on its molecular structure but retaining her human form underneath.
The scientists began running tests on Lindsay immediately trying to figure out what happened. Her body had encased itself in a thin sheet of ice that protected it as though it were armor. Lindsay also froze anything she touched. Whenever she made fast movements with her hands several ice shards would shoot out like miniature bullets.
Part 2
Down on his luck and out of work Gabriel Jones spends his days scrounging trash cans for food and his nights seeking shelter underneath bridges and overhangs. On a particularly stormy night he finds his self at the door of the Boreas, Arizona church of God. The friendly caretaker lets him in and offers him a bundle of ragged cloth to use as a bed in the back kitchen near a wood stove that could serve as a heater.
Shortly past one in the morning a blinding light enters through a small window and blinds Gabriel. Then the form of a winged angel slowly floats down and begins speaking.
“Gabriel Jones you have been summoned.”
“Is it my time already” he asked timidly?
“No, the hand of death is not upon your shoulders yet. God has a task that you alone must accomplish before he calls you home.”
The angel then draws forth a fiery sword and hands it, hilt first, towards Gabriel. The homeless man accepts the blade though he is unsure how or why he should use it.
“Go with God and your purpose will be revealed” the angel says as the blinding light fades.
Gabriel looks around to find himself alone and holding a now lifeless sword. He lifts it toward the sky and his body sprouts white angelic wings. As he takes flight into the sky he feels his muscles growing, getting stronger, and wonders what else has changed.
Part 3
The Department of Defense has contracted engineer Jacob Hammer to dismantle the powered armor once used by the villain Powerhouse to determine its inner workings. They hope that if he can find out how it works then the engineer could design the armor a better version that the troops can use in combat.
After months of taking the mentally controlled suit apart, Jacob finally figures out how it works. Building on the original design he designs a better more stabilized version. The suit of armor finally became ready for testing.
After contacting Colonel James to set up the test site, Jacob donned the prototype armor. Activating the anti-gravity gyros in the boots he took flight and made his way to the abandoned army outpost. As he approached the site he saw that the military had already prepositioned several decommissioned WWII era tanks around the field.
Hammer mentally told the armor what to do and watched the various statistics scroll across the inside of his helmet. The armor fired off three energy bursts targeted at three separate tanks. They all hit their marks and the tanks exploded. Jacob then activated the communicator and gave the Colonel the signal to start the next test.
One of the remaining tanks opened fire with its cannon. The prototype armor brought its energy shield online just before the blast hit. The energy absorbed the projectile but the impact sent Jacob spinning out of control until the stabilizers could kick in and straighten him out.
Part 4
Ninja master Ryu Kamakura finds himself in the United States tracking down his most hate enemy. Using his ninja agility and his trusty ninja blade he battles the dark ninja, Kokushibyou in an abandoned warehouse. As the two struggle against each other Ryu feels a renewed sense of purpose as if this new country is where he truly belongs.
Part 5
Melanie Neidich recently returned to the war torn future of 2388 hoping to find it changed for the better. It turns out the world had changed, but for the worst. Instead of a barren wasteland ruled by dinosaurs, she found the human race enslaved by an alien species.
It took her only a moment to think back and determine at what time the past might have changed drastically enough for this to happen. Then the realization came to her like a bolt of lightning.
“Voltage’s death, what other possibility is there?”
With this new knowledge she set to work looking for a powerful energy source that might allow her to go back. Melanie saw a giant flying saucer hovering over the horizon. Its massive laser blasts devastating entire buildings. She ran, using up every ounce of strength in an effort to get beneath the ship. As the alien saucer fired off a blast she was there, her body absorbed the energy and in an instant she was gone.
Part 6
Voltage found himself squaring off against the Gorgon’s leader, Queen Medusa. She finally caught him with her stone gaze and his body began changing into rock. Before his body got to the point of no return Melanie arrived.
Her body began absorbing the magical energy drawing the stone from his body. Using this new energy she grabbed Voltage and then transported them both out of there. The both of them arrived in Wayward City, New Jersey just after his wife returned from her arctic expedition.
Epilogue…
“Good morning USA” an anchorwoman announced “Congress convened just last night to discuss the heightened security threats that have been caused by the influx of super villain activity.”
She continued her story adding “they voted to reinstate the Superhuman Defense League on one condition. That the team allows one of the government’s own agents to be present as their representative.”
Former president Robert Westlake smiles as he shakes hands with Hercules Cole inside Sentinel Tower’s war room “thank you all for having me here” he says.
“You are always welcome sir” Voltage says with a salute “glad to have you on the team.” __________________
