It was beginning to look like the end for our heroes when they arrived. One was flying to the scene in the shape of a falcon. The other moved with feline agility while brandishing a sickle bladed sword. The falcon changed shape as it perched on the sidewalk, becoming a man but retaining the falcon’s head.
“Sphinx, try and free those two I will take care of these vile creatures!”
“No problem boss, watch your back!”
The leader of the two is called Horus and he stood firm as his right eye blazed with fire and he summoned the power of the sun. Unleashing a blazing beam of energy that struck Gunslinger in the chest melting away his cybernetic parts, Horus then dodged a bullet from Dark Eagle’s gun.
Horus’ left eye, which appeared dead because of its silvery form, flared to life allowing him to call upon the power of the moon. Lifting his hand he used the gravitational pull to yank the revolver from Dark Eagle’s hand. Then he crushed it between his super strong fingers.
“Fools no mere mortal weapons can harm a god” Horus shouts drawing on the heavens to put force behind his voice.
Fire Fox sets her sites on the falcon headed Egyptian god and shoots forth her own stream of fire. Horus met the onslaught with his own fire and the two were locked in a struggle of wills. Eventually the god overcame the mortal and his fire blazed hotter, like a furnace that had just been stocked!
The heat forced Fire Fox to retreat and Locust called forth his insects to shield her from the attacker. The Master Manipulator groaned as his plans began to unravel before his eyes.
Meanwhile the Sphinx used his sickle sword, the khopesh, to slice through the insect prison and set the captives free. Bombshell and Crimson Shield immediately joined the fight and began pounding away at the enemy.
As the heroes regrouped the villains turned their tails and ran like the cowards they are. Horus and Crimson Shield flew after them for about a block and then settled into letting them go for now. Upon returning to the scene of the battle Horus landed alongside the Ghost Ninja and took the Ankh from around his neck.
“This will help her recover” he said solemnly.
Waving the symbol over her he chanted in a low, soothing voice. Her bones mended themselves and within moments she was conscious again. She gasped in pain as she came too and then she laid their content at being alive.
“How can we ever repay you” Crimson Shield asked offering his hand?
Horus took it and the two shook “no need my friend. The Egyptian Elite are here to offer our assistance.”
The Superhuman Defense League and their new allies returned to Sentinel Tower where they could monitor the United States looking for clues as to where the villains ran off too.
Somewhere on the west coast…
Harbinger was drawn to a dense forest outside of the small town of Crescent View. The swords sung loudly in his head declaring one of their own was near at hand. Harbinger looked around seeing nothing at first. Then he saw the wolf pack feeding on the remains of a dear.
The alpha male took notice of the intruder immediately and began to change, assuming a more humanoid appearance “what do you want stranger” he howled?
“I want the power sword werewolf” Harbinger demanded “where is it?”
“You will not take what belongs to Rougarou” he answered.
Harbinger swooped down, his war hammer blazing with fire as it struck with a crushing blow. The werewolf leapt out of the way and slashed out with his claws. The attack only dealt a glancing blow that slid harmlessly off of the winged one’s armor.
Harbinger used his powers to create an earthquake knocking the canine off his feet. Then he summoned the fire to engulf the forest that surrounded them. The rest of the wolf pack came to their leader’s aid latching on to Harbinger’s arms and legs with their strong jaws.
Luther Vanguard struggled under the combined weight of the pack and called forth a water stream to knock them loose.
The one called Rougarou rose up and stared daggers at the assailant “now you are at my mercy human. You will give me the other swords or you will die!”
“Call off your dogs, vile beast so that I may slay you where you now stand!”
Harbinger shook and with his massive strength he threw the wolves into the spreading flames. They were instantly engulfed by fire as their bodies were charred beyond recognition. Rougarou leapt toward the winged hero hoping to latch on to Harbinger’s neck with his strong jaws. But the winged warrior flew higher out of the werewolf’s reach.
Then he summoned his necromantic power and raised the charred remains from their deaths placing them under his complete control. The burnt carcasses approached their former leader and attack him with howls of glee. They tore at his flesh as Rougarou tried to fend them off but unable to harm them for they were his family regardless of the monsters they’ve become.
Harbinger swung his mighty hammer once again and crushed the life out of the werewolf. A small collar slipped from around his neck as he breathed his last breath. The collar slowly changed back into the form of a sword.
Luther took up the sword and merged it with its brethren. The collar latched around the handle of the hammer and the winged warrior became a werewolf underneath his armor. With a great howl he flew off into the night sky.
Elsewhere in the city of crime, Saint Katherine’s Bay…
The mysterious cat-woman who calls herself Tigress slashes out with her claws slicing Midnight across the shoulder shredding through his black suit and drawing blood. Not wanting to seriously hurt her until absolutely necessary the dark avenger keeps his blades retracted as he punches her square in the face with an armored gauntlet.
“What kind of man hits a defenseless girl” she purrs in disgust.
“I don’t see anything at all defenseless about you.”
She jumps at him again this time swinging her tail like a whip. Wrapping it around his leg she pulls him off his feet. Then she pounces on him swiping her claws right and left tearing his suit to shreds. Midnight kicks hard forcing her to jump away from him. She lands on her feet just out of reach.
“Mark where are you?” Midnight mumbles into his masks communicator.
“Not now John” Mainframe replies through his helmet “I’m kind of busy here myself” he says six blocks away as he ducks underneath a stream of machinegun fire while activating his electromagnetic field generator.
Midnight fires off his grappler and pulls himself to a nearby roof trying to catch a quick breather. The orange and black striped feline leaps after him. As she lands on the roof she rolls and comes up on both hands as she kicks out with both feet connecting in his abdomen.
John Dark Jr. flies backwards over the edge of the roof and falls for a few seconds before he can activate his grapplers and swing to safety “no more Mr. Nice Guy” he grunts as he activates his wrist blades. __________________
