The White House, what was once a symbol of leadership and freedom…now looks to be that of a fortress as green armored men stand guard in front of a newly constructed wall. On top of it were laser mounted posts. As nearby pedestrians walk along Pennsylvania Avenue, some look on in utter disgust, while others look on in fear. Especially at the guards. Meanwhile, inside the Oval Office, staring out the window with his hands behind his back, stood the tall, red haired and highly muscular man of the office. The President of the United States himself….Norman Osborn, who soon hears a beep coming from the phone on his desk. With a raised eyebrow , he puts it on speaker. “Yes?”
“Both Mr. Stark and Mr. Trask have arrived for your 10:00 meeting, Mr. President.” replied a young female voice from outside the office, speaking in a manner that would seem somewhat trendy but not expected in the workplace.
Osborn seemed less then pleased to hear this. After all, despite his new position, he was still a business man at heart. Nonetheless, he presses a button on the phone and gives his secretary his reply. “Show them in.” Norman walks over in front of the desk, and later sees his visitors. The tall, handsome, savvy Tony Stark, and the grey haired, middle aged Bolivar Trask.
Tony is the first to step up, in his usual professional demeanor. “You wanted to see us, Mr. President?”
“Of course, I did..” Osborn replied coldly. “And this is why.” The President later holds up a Daily Bugle newspaper, with the front page photo showing a destroyed, futuristic-like tank tipped to its side, and with a huge A painted on the bottom. And paper’s banner headline. ‘The Avengers strike again.’ “Tell me something, gentlemen.” says the angry President as he slams the paper on the table in the middle of the room. “Why are these ‘Avengers’ still causing trouble in New York? Especially after you told me that they would be dealt with!”
Both Stark and Trask look at each other, until finally, Tony takes it upon himself to answer. “Their…getting more powerful recruits on their side, sir. Most notably Sue Storm and The Thing.”
Hearing this gave Norman another raised brow, though was still not completely phased by this. “I see…apparently, Ms. Storm thinks she can take the law in her own hands to free both her fiance and her brother. Well, since the Avengers are using both Storm and Grimm as their new backbone, then we’ll just have to send our more powerful recruits.”
“Well sir…” Tony replied, somewhat disturbed. “Powerful yes, but their only to be summoned incase of global threats, not on incidents on such a small scale like this. If we send them to New York now, innocent people might get caught in the…”
“Mr. President!” Trask interrupted, which clearly agitates Tony. “If may say so…my people have just completed a very, very powerful weapon which can easily make short work out of an army. I could send the order and have it used to take care of the Avengers. And as far as innocent bystanders go, we’ll be sure to give an order for people to stay in their homes and out of the way.”
Tony turns sharply to the seemingly callous Trask. “Damn it, Bolivar! You know that with that much power, it could very well tear the city apart!”
Trask, however, gives Tony an irritated look. “Well, Stark, if you have a better idea…”
“Enough!!” Osborn was practically straining just to keep calm. Finally, after taking a deep breath, he walks over to both men. “Trask…do whatever you have to!” He later turns to Tony. “Stark, you and the Ultimates can serve as back-up, so you can try and keep the destruction to a minimum. Just get this over with quickly and keep this from turning into a media circus. Am I clear, gentlemen?”
With Trask smiling after getting his way, Tony is left sighing as he looks at the President. “Yes sir, we’ll get right on it.”
“Good….now get to work.” After giving that order, Norman watches both men leave the office. After which, he picks the paper back up to look at it one more time…and angrily crumbles it.”
