The entire team geared up and loaded onto the Defender and blasted out of Wayward City at record speed. John Dark jr. aka Midnight was with them while Mark Watson stayed behind at Sentinel Tower to relay any information that he may come across. The Superhuman Defense League arrived in New Haven three blocks south of where Mark had said HARM was hiding out.
The Crimson Shield took point as the team made their way silently up a side street. His enhanced senses shoot alert them to any potential threats so that they would not be caught unawares. Midnight trailed the group using his nightvision lenses to scan the darkened corners of nearby buildings.
Harbinger spread his wings and took to the sky as they came within sight of their target. Ghost Ninja made herself invisible and intangible as she slipped through the concrete wall of the old abandoned theater. Voltage teleported inside the building throwing caution to the wind, hoping a surprise attack would catch HARM off balance.
Then the Crimson Shield picked up a faint buzzing sound, so quiet a normal human wouldn’t have heard it at all “what in the…”
A massive explosion rocked the buildings nearby as the theater went up in a fireball. Robotic Drones came out of the woodworks opening fire on the heroes with energy assault rifles. A blast hit Bombshell square in the chest knocking her off balance. She absorbed the energy and unleashed it in a blast of concussive force obliterating several drones in her path.
The Jade Samurai and Harbinger clashed in the sky overhead while Gunslinger and Powerhouse joined the fray below. The Crimson Shield and Powerhouse traded blows while Midnight and the Gunslinger stood facing each other as if readying for an old western shootout.
Powerhouse unleashed an energy blast which was blocked by Crimson Shield’s power shield. Then the red, white, and blue hero unleashed a super strong haymaker sending Powerhouse crashing into a nearby dumpster.
“What happened to Voltage and Ghost Ninja?” Bombshell shouted over the sounds of battle!
Harbinger dove out of the way of Jade Samurai’s flamethrower “I don’t see them anywhere, maybe they’re still inside” with that he swung Claiomh Solais aiming for the Samurai’s head but it was parried with the robotic warrior’s own katana.
Midnight pulled a shuriken from the pouch on his Avenger’s belt while Gunslinger drew his revolver. Gunslinger fired first and Midnight leapt to safety. As fell sideways he tossed the shuriken. The throwing weapon found its mark and exploded as it connected with the Gunslinger’s side.
Bombshell obliterated several more drones and regrouped with the others as they surveyed the situation. Gunslinger was ordering a retreat as sirens sounded in the distance.
Harbinger managed to knock the Jade Samurai’s sword from his hand as the two warriors landed on the pavement. The Samurai began to change instantly at the loss of his weapon. His cybernetic armor and weaponry disappeared as if it had never been and a normal human being lay on the street wearing only a pair of striped boxer shorts. The large katana changed as well, it shrunk to a more normal sized sword with strange symbols and words etched on its hilt.
“It can’t be” Harbinger said as he went over and picked it up “it is, this is one of the Cadmarian power swords. This one is Kusanagi the sentry’s sword.”
The man formerly called Jade Samurai regained consciousness “that sword belongs to me, Jack Savage, give it back!”
Midnight planted a micro-trace on one of the robotic drones as the rest of HARM scattered. At that moment Voltage and Ghost Ninja crawled out of the wreckage that was the theater.
“You look like hell” Crimson Shield said to them smiling with relief.
“Sorry we didn’t get here sooner” Ghost Ninja wheezed “I had to use my power to phase Voltage as well as myself to protect us and it took too much out of me. We were trapped beneath the rubble once we became solid again and were too weak to move it.”
“I suggest we make a hasty retreat before those sirens get here otherwise we will be delayed in our pursuit of HARM” Harbinger said as he ushered them back toward the Defender.
“Mark can you track the tracer” Midnight asked through the mask communicator.
“Sure thing, just give me a minute to link with the GPS. It will take a little time.”
