This is just a rather short segment of issue #12, not much happening yet but its been awhile since I posted so I wanted to get this part up.
In Wayward City, the Superhuman Defense League has become a government sanctioned entity. They are under the leadership of Hercules Cole, also known as the electrical hero Voltage. His second in command is the battle hardened woman of the future Melanie Neidich aka Bombshell. The others on the team are patriotic strongman Orion Smith also called the Crimson Shield, stealth warrior Alicia Martin the Ghost Ninja, and archeologist turned war angel Luther Vanguard aka Harbinger.
They have gathered in their headquarters that is now called Sentinel Tower to discuss the recent attacks by the terrorist organization H.A.R.M. Hercules even called in outside help from Saint Katherine’s Bay.
John Dark Jr. and Mark Watson were currently sitting at the conference table in the Tower’s “War” room sipping coffee while the others recapped their previous confrontation at the White House.
“So what exactly do you need from us” John asked the team?
“Well we have all this computer equipment but none of us are good enough to track down H.A.R.M.” Voltage answered.
“So you need my help” Mark stated matter-of-factly “and what do we get?”
“What do you want?”
“I want a costume and a super hero name like you guys” Mark said nonchalantly.
“We’ll help because it will make America safer” John said seriously and with a warning glance at Mark “and I’ll even help you guys fight them.”
Mark took the hint and went to work on the computer terminal. He quickly found the organizations country of origin “It may interest you to know that HARM stands for Heavily Armed Robotic Mercenaries and that the group started in Vietnam at the end of the war.”
“That would coincide with the president’s thoughts that it was related to the Man of Tomorrow Project that had fallen into the Vietcong’s hands” Voltage said thoughtfully “so the plans survived the explosion that Karl Granger had caused that took his own life *(see last ish)* and the Vietcong was able to use them to create cybernetically enhanced soldiers as well as robotic drones. But why did it take so long for them to make themselves known?”
Mark was still typing away at the keyboard but he looked up to answer “because up until recently they’ve stayed in the background funding other terrorist organizations and providing them with weaponry. The Vietcong scientist who had put the project into use finally died a few years ago. Since then HARM has been under the command of the cyborg known only as the Gunslinger. This guy seems to be more aggressive than the former leaders. He’s even relocated the organization from Vietnam to the Middle East.”
“So what do they want” asked the Crimson Shield?
“What does any terrorist want” stated John Dark “power over others, the ability to strike fear into people’s hearts just to get their own twisted point across. You know the usual.”
“So are we flying to the Middle East?”
“No need” Mark said “they are still in the country according to the CIA files I’ve decoded. They’re suspected to be nearby in the city of New Haven.”
“I’ll ready the Defender” Bombshell said rushing from the room towards the aircraft hangar.
