Bad news according to Variety news! Star Trek's next movie is being pushed back  from Dec. 25 2008 to May 8, 2009 with the belief it will make more money during the summer season.

I just heard about that today! I am so pissed! (Please excuse my language Tim) I am going to email Paramount about this and giving them my feedback! How stupid can J.J. Abrams be! How can it make more money that way! That will just make all the fans mad and they won't want to see it!

thta's stupid, there's no good movies in december so there'll be no competition.  a may release will make it compete with huge summer hits.  it's star trek, not spider-man so it may hardly make any money at all with the youth of america.  a dec. release would've had everyone who was tired of academy award movies.
plus, i've already got a t-shirt that says its dec. release.  what a joke.

December is a good time to release a movie. Alvin and the Chipmunks came out in December and it made over 200 million dollars. December is perfect for movies that are good, but not as high on the totem pole like your Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and Spider-Man type movies. Star Trek is good, but most of it's releases have never hit that kind of range. I think the most profitable was Star Trek 4. That one had a cool gimmick of bringing the original cast to our time. Star Trek 3 had the gimmick of bringing Spock back to life. Those two have always been my favorite.
