Mecha City, the Lumberverse…

Vestige and his small band of golems are fully armed and prepare to make the jump to the planet Earth. None of the golems had ever been to this universe before. They were unsure what to expect but planned on taking enough firepower to destroy anything that gets in their way.

Elsewhere on Earth…

Bob Granger, the cyborg, trudges on through a sewer pipe to avoid the menacing creatures above ground. But he soon finds himself hopelessly lost when the pipeline forks off in three different directions. He chooses to continue down the center path even though it is partially flooded.

About forty feet in he has a misstep. What he though was a small dip was in actuality a pipe leading straight down and he dropped fast. The pipe was completely filled with water so he had to hold his breath. Unable to find purchase on the slick metal he just had to wait the ride out.

The pipeline made many twists and turns slamming Bob into the side with every one. It finally dumped him out into a retention pond that smelled worse than anything he had every smelled before. He swam to the west bank and climbed out covered in raw sewage.

Bob was dismayed to find out that his rift band had been severely damaged in the slide down. It no longer functioned at all. He was trapped here until he could get it repaired.

In the center of the city Vestige and his entourage arrived. People fled at the sight of them. The golem’s smiled. It would seem here the humans were scared of them, which was how it should be in the Technoverse. The assassin ordered his golems to question as many of the fleshies as they could catch and find the whereabouts of the cyborg.

Ashigaru ignited her pulse blade and chased off after a couple in business suits fleeing down the street. Dragoon fired his rifle at a man’s leg causing him to fall. The metahound had a field day chasing after small school age children. Chimera opened its mouth and spat flame at one of the wheeled metal beasts melting its rubber tires causing the occupant to jump out and run.

The entire street was in utter chaos mere moments after the golems arrived! Sirens wailed in the distance getting closer with every second. Ten black and whites arrived, uniformed officers stepping out drawing service pistols. A van with the strange word SWAT on its side arrived simultaneously and five well armed troops jumped out the back wielding riot shields and assault rifles.

A news chopper shot footage of the madness from the safety of the skies until Chimera flew up after it and burnt its rotors to a crisp sending it crashing to the street below.

Meanwhile safely in the White House, Washington, D.C.

“Madam President” the aide shouted as he ran into the Oval Office!

“What is it Gregory?”

“Saint Katherine’s Bay has just erupted into a war zone!”

“What the devil are you talking about?”

“Robots are attacking downtown seemingly at random.”

“Who is it this time the Russians? The Germans?  The Iraqis?”

“We’re not sure but early intelligence reports that they are not from any known terrorist groups or of our known enemies past or present.”

“So what are you telling me?”

“We think they are extraterrestrial in origin” Gregory said quickly without much enthusiasm.

“Alien invaders are the best your agents can come up with?” President Sally Jenkins mocks “I need something more believable than that or you’re fired!”

“Yes ma’am” Gregory dips his head and walks out of the office like a whipped puppy.

Reading this chapter I kept thinking about 24 for some reason. I guess I have too many TV shows in my head.

Probably the presidential parts. I used a female president to be different. It is the same one who is president in my own comic universe where my characters reside. I redid some of my characters and locales a bit too. Saint Katherine's Bay is the Midnight Avenger's turf so he's going to show up to battle the golem's. So there's your sneak peak for the upcoming issue. I damaged the rift band because I wanted to strand him on Earth to encounter the different super heroes while he works on finding an alternate way home.

I remember the X-men cartoon on Fox had a female President. I was never sure why they were doing that at that time whether it was supposed to be in the future or what the deal was.

Yeah you never can tell. My characters reside in the year 2018 or thereabouts at least in my head. That's why I figured we might have one by then.

Ok, so it's in the future. I didn't get that at first. You think maybe by 2050 or so we'll have a robot for President?

You never know maybe if someone can build a robot who actually has AI and a political mind maybe. Yeah I know I don't explain enough in my writing. I just planned the stories to take place in the future because I figure by the time I get anything published (if ever) that that will be the present and not the future anymore.
