This story takes place prior to the events of issue #1. It tells of Bob's capture by the Golem-Lord. The last segment brings Bob back to his present situation. Hope you enjoy it...
Robertson Granger rallied his troops around him preparing to push the golem lines back to the Anvil Mountains. His twin sister Caroline was among his finest commanders. She had been given the order to carry to the troops only moments ago and she has already rallied two platoons and working on a third. It still worried Robertson that their lead scout had not returned.
“If anything happened to Myo Dai the Golem-Lord will pay, this I swear!”
“Don’t worry he can take care of himself brother” Caroline said as she placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
“I didn’t notice you returned. How goes it sis?”
“All three platoons are ready to march on your orders. We just have to hope our weapons will put a dent in the golem’s armored bodies.”
“Don’t worry about that, our techs tell me each weapon has been modified with parts we recovered from the fallen golems of previous battles, they should work well enough.”
Robertson and Caroline Granger looked on as the troops readied themselves to march. Shouldering his assault rifle Robertson gave the order and the Freeborn marched out. They came to Hammerfall Ridge where the golem encampment had already taken up defensive positions.
The golem pulse rifles began firing as the humans found cover behind large rocks and fallen trees. They fired back, their enhanced weapons firing thin bolts of energy that merely singed the metal frames of the golems. The robots shrugged off the attack and left their defensive positions to converge on the fleshies.
Robertson stared in shock as the modified weapons proved useless against their enemy. He had led his soldiers into a trap it would seem. His techs had lied to him! He screamed in frustration and began using his own rifle as a club batting aside golems as he made his way to the center of their camp. As he neared the center of the camp he saw their betrayer. Myo Dai stood conversing with a Dragoon Captain, laughing at the slaughter.
“Nooooo! You betrayed us!”
“Come now brother did you really think your pitiful band of fleshies could defeat the awesome might of the Golem-Lord?”
Snarling, face contorted with rage Robertson Granger flung himself at his former friend dragging him to the ground. As his fists found home in Myo’s face, Robertson thought about his sister out there with the troops. He hoped she was able to lead them in a safe retreat for he knew he would not survive this encounter.
The Dragoon fired his pulse rifle five times into various areas of Robertson’s body, once in the head, right arm, chest, and both legs rendering him helpless.
Myo Dai shoved his former commander’s body off of him and grabbed a suit of armor from a nearby tent completely covering his features from head to toe. He would be Myo Dai the fleshy no longer for now on he would be known only as Daimyo!
Awakening from his dream, Bob the cyborg felt tears flowing from his still human eye. The memories had rushed back of his friend’s betrayal and the loss of his humanity. He now remembered everything that led to his capture. Had Carol and the others survived? He could only hope so. His immediate concern however would be to find out where he now was.
Bob looked around surveying the area. He was in an alley surrounded by cardboard boxes and garbage. Towering buildings loomed overhead mostly made of brick and glass with metal fire escapes running up the side. As he emerged from the darkness he found a busier street with strange round rubber footed metal creatures carrying humans in their glassy stomachs up and down the street. Other humans crossed the street in waves as the colored lights changed.
“Just where the &*#% am I?” __________________"Beware villains for it is Midnight!"
