The Golem-Lord’s chambers, Golem Castle, the Technoverse…
The G-Squad leader, Daimyo, kneels before the Golem-Lord begging forgiveness for his failure. He is flanked by metahounds as well as a Dragoon with pulse rifle pointed at his head. It looks as if he is about to be executed. The Golem-Lord’s bodyguard Chaos, a massive three headed dragon golem, stares at Daimyo with a hungry look on its face.
“Sire please, I can retrieve him all I need is a small force of golems each with synchronized rift bands. My band can lock on to the cyborg’s, I just need time to calibrate it before we make the first jump.”
“Your usefulness has almost come to an end Daimyo! I should let the metahounds rip you apart or perhaps feed you to Chaos?”
The G-Squad leader continues to beg for a few moments while the Golem-Lord ponders the predicament then he gestures to the Dragoon and metahounds to stand down. The golems comply immediately as if they are controlled by a mental link.
“Leave now before I change my mind and take four golems with you. Do not fail me again Daimyo or you will face the wrath of Chaos!"
Daimyo bowed and hurriedly left the Golem-Lord’s chambers.
Meanwhile on a desolate world…
The cyborg yelled in frustration as he continued his search for inhabitants of this forsaken world. It would be another eight hours before the rift band was recharged and he was able to jump again. He hated the thought of jumping without a programmed destination. It was just too random; there was no telling where he would end up. But without the proper technology there was no help for it. He couldn’t just stay here, they would follow him. He was surprised they haven’t already arrived. That’s why he remained constantly moving, trying to put as much distance between where he arrived and himself.
He tried to remember what happened to cause his predicament. His memory fragmented by the procedure, parts of it possibly lost forever. He knew he was once completely human and he fought alongside other humans. But something happened to him, an accident perhaps? Or maybe he was injured during combat? He couldn’t be sure. All he knows is when he woke up both his legs were gone and so was his right arm. The left side of his skull had already been replaced along with his left eye. Most of his torso was also replaced and perhaps his organs? Cybernetic lungs would explain why he hasn’t gotten winded from the running.
He tried to clear his head of these thoughts and returned his focus on the task at hand. The cyborg thought he saw the mountain up ahead move. His eyes were playing tricks on him. Well maybe his human one but the other shouldn’t be. He tried to get a better look at the rock formation. His left eye began to zoom like a scope magnifying the image. That was no mountain it was some kind of rock creature! He stopped where he was and watched the behemoth as it lumbered along its path. He glanced at his rift band watching the recharge timer count down. Roughly five and half hours left before he could open a dimensional rift.
The Technoverse, just outside the Golem-Lord’s Castle…
Daimyo has assembled his team of dimension jumpers. Among them is a Dragoon, a metahound, an Ashigaru (sword trooper), and a Chimera (dragon winged and headed, lion bodied, scorpion tailed golem). He leapt onto the back of the Chimera, set the coordinate projector, and activated the rift bands. The small force then jumped through the rift. The team's leader was not surprised to find they were in the Terraverse for he had been here before on missions for the Golem-Lord. The troopers would have to be careful to stay on the lookout for the giant mountain like terrasaurs that could crush them in an instant. But at least there was no intelligent life in this world, no one who could help the cyborg escape them.
He looked down at his rift band, his prey only had about five hours before he could jump again. The small golem force would have to find him before then otherwise they would have to wait until their bands were recharged. Luckily for them they were armed with the advanced rift bands and only had to wait twelve hours for it to recharge instead of the twenty-four hours. Though they were still seven hours behind the cyborg. Daimyo ordered the Dragoon and Ashigaru to scout the area with the metahound while he took to the sky on the back of the Chimera.
The metahound began to howl with delight when it picked up the cyborg's trail. He was heading roughly northeast and into terrasaur territory. Daimyo ordered the golems forward and recounted his last mission here. The Golem-Lord had sent the G-Squad to the Terraverse in order to retrieve some live creatures for his hideous experiments resulting in what the minions affectionately called the Bonewalkers, skeletal creatures with circuit board brains that controlled their bone limbs making them mindless zombies. Of course they were useless in the battle with the fleshies or full humans who considered themselves the Freeborn, not under the Golem-Lord's rule, but they were sorely mistaken. And once this war was over they would all be cyborgs.
Time was steadily running out as Daimyo and the Chimera first spotted the cyborg. What was he doing? The crazy fool had managed to climb on a terrasaur's back. Daimyo couldn't believe his eyes. His prey was actually riding one of the rock beasts. Where was the Dragoon? The only chance they had without risking a terrasuar stampede was to snipe the cyborg and hope he falls off the beast.
The Dragoon was already studying the situation and had brought his pulse rifle's scope up to his eye. The Ashigaru was standing by his side, her pulse blade ignited, staring intently at the creature. As if the situation wasn't bad enough the metahound chose that moment to howl and charge the terrasaur.
Daimyo turned toward the hound and swore under his breath "what is that $@%# mutt doing?"
They cyborg smiled as he saw the metahound charging the monstrous behemoth he was riding. He knew if they caught him on this world he would need a weapon with which to defend himself. Mounted on the rock creature's back he spurred it where he hoped the flanks were and the beast roared. The terrasaur caught sight of the hound at the same moment and turned toward it. The metahound attacked the creature's ankles trying to latch on through the rock like skin. With one swift motion the terrasaur lifted it's foot and brought it crashing down on the golem's back.
Daimyo ordered the Chimera to attack and the twin flamethrowers mounted in the golem's mouth spat a stream of fire towards the terrasaur. The rock creature's attention turned to the flying threat and its gravelly tongue lashed out toward the Chimera batting it sideways. Daimyo barely managed to hang on to the golem instead of being thrown off. At that moment the Dragoon fired his pulse rifle hitting the cyborg square in the chest sending him over the side of the terrasaur.
The cyborg slammed into the ground hard. His head was spinning as he tried to orient himself. He managed a sitting position and then his vision cleared. What he saw didn't give him any hope for the Ashigaru was on top of him, her pulse blade coming down in a killing blow. The cyborg's rift band beeped. He used his cybernetic arm to block the pulse blade and then kicked with his legs sending the golem sword trooper flying off him.
He glanced down at the rift band's recharge timer "had it really been five hours since the battle began? He didn't think it had but the rift band was fully charged" without wasting another moment of thought he activated the dimensional rift and jumped through it leaving the golems to battle the terrasaur. __________________"Beware villains for it is Midnight!"
