Issue #4: “The Trip”

Fred: “…5, 4, 3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF!”
The engines roared loud and sent out big clouds of fire and smoke. It sent Joe and his partner Tim flying into space.
The ship went soaring into space. He was very nervous about it all, the engagement, the trip, Fred, and mostly Natalie. He loved her so much. He was worried about her. They weren’t going to see each other for almost a month.
This was their second day in space.
Fred: “Joe, Tim can you guys hear me?”
Joe: “Yeah, we can hear you.”
Fred: “Good. I was just checking up on you.”
Joe: “Okay. How are you guys doing? How is Natalie?”
Fred: “We’re fine. I’ll put her on the line.”
Natalie: “Hi Joe. I hope you are okay.”
Joe: “Hello Natalie. Happy 3-day anniversary. I am fine.”
Natalie: “You too sweetie. I just want to let you know I love you.”
Joe: “I love y------“
BOOM! BOOM!
Natalie: “Joe? Joe? Are you there? Joe? What happened to Joe? What is going on?”
Fred: “Joe, are you there buddy. Tim? Hello?”
Assistant: “Fred, Natalie I have some bad news. There is no reception up there. We can’t get a signal. I’m so sorry. A meteor hit their shuttle. They are dead.”
Natalie dropped her mouth. She started to cry. She fell into Fred’s arms crying and screaming. Fred stared to cry too.
Natalie: “Aaaahhhh! Oh my gosh!! Nooo, Joe!!”
Fred: “Oh my gosh…. Joe. Noooo!
In space:
Joe: “AAAAHHH!!! Tim where are you?!”
Then there was an explosion behind Joe. It sent Tim’s body flying into Joe. Boom! There was another explosion sending Joe outside into outer space.
It sent him and his partner flying threw space. This all happened 15 years ago in 1992.
When he woke up he had no idea where he was. There were 3 people staring at him. He thought he woke up on Earth. He was wrong. He was on Argon.
Lady: “Hello darling. You’ve been out for a while. What’s your name?”
Joe: “My name? I don’t know. I don’t remember anything. Wh-Where am I?”
Man: “You are on Argon.”
Joe: “Argon? Where’s that?”
Man: “Argon is a planet far away from yours, Earth.”
Joe had a really confused look on his face. He had no idea about anything.
Man: “Since you have no idea what is going on we will take care of you. Let me introduce you to your new family. I am Mek and this is my wife Sek. That is my son Trek.”
Mek pointed at the back of the room. Trek waved.
Mek: “Do you remember anything?
Joe: “No.”
Mek: “Okay then. Now let us bring back your memory. Lie down and relax. It will go by fast and won’t hurt, hopefully.”
Joe: “Hopefully?!?”
Sek: “Just relax.”
Joe: “Hold on. What year is it on Earth?”
Sek: “Let me check. (Sek goes to a machine in the corner of the room). The year is 2002.”
Mek: “Now can we bring your memory back?”
Joe: “Sure, yeah whatever.”
After the process he fell asleep. During his sleep he dreamt about Natalie and Fred. He dreamt about all the good times they had. Joe mostly dreamt of the engagement. He was so worried about her. He woke up 2 hours later.
Joe: “ Oh… My head. So you’re telling me that I’m on a planet called Argon millions of miles away from Earth and that I can fly, I have super strength, and I can shoot lasers out of my eyes and hands?”
Trek: “ Pretty much. Oh yeah one more thing. Everybody on Earth thinks your dead and doesn’t remember you.”
Joe: “Wow”
Sek: “Don’t scare him Trek.”
Trek: “I was jus telling the truth.”
They gave him the nickname Galactic Man. Ok, now I need to tell you why he went back to Manhattan. Something happened on Argon one day. His foster parents were blown up. People thought that Galactic Man blew them up. The police chased him down, finding him wherever he went. He knew somebody framed him, so he left Argon. He just couldn’t take it anymore. He had to find the person who framed him, but he would worry about that later. So he went back to Manhattan, New York, USA on Earth. And that was how Galactic Man was born.
