Bradford Hilts grew up in a sterile and controlled environment. His Mother was an esteemed astronomer and Father a world famous physicist. He was blessed with his parents advanced intellect and became an astronomer like his Mother while also tinkering with mechanics. He devised an invention that he felt could benefit mankind and its thirst for energy. Bradford concocted a plan to harness the energy of a passing comet through an energy siphon connected to a deep space radar ground dish. His machine functioned with limited success. It did indeed pull some energy from the comet as it passed Earth, but instead of being able to store it in super capacity batteries as intended, it overloaded the mechanism and exploded. Bradford was bombarded with the space energy and instantly vaporized. His body was gone but somehow his consciousness remained. He was able to establish a psychic link to his Father. Together they created a machine that pulled all the dispersed energy together and Bradford’s body took on a human-like form, though essentially a glowing shower of energy. Through sheer willpower and determination, Bradford was soon able to gain the appearance of his previous human form, sans any hair. Through extreme effort he is able to maintain this state for up to 18 hours before reverting back to his energy form. After noting that he was constantly losing energy with each transformation, the Father and son determined a containment suit was need to keep him from the inevitable total dissipation of his energy form and subsequent probable death. The suit allows him to maintain and recharge his comet based energy at a predictable level. The suit also allows him controlled discharges of emery for flight and offensive blasts. Knowing his career as an astronomer was over, he decided to give a go at the heroic genre, having secretly admired the heroes of the comics that he hide from his studious parent during his younger years. Comet seemed an obvious moniker, so he adopted this as his own. At long last he could break free of his academic environment and be more of a free spirit. With his incredible powers he gained confidence he never was able to show to others. He relished his powers and the good he could now do for the general public. A chance meeting with the Shard lead to the formation of a team that went on to many major wins against some of the vilest of the villains. Second tier heroes separately, as a duo they became a level one team that is admired by most and reviled by criminals.
